Advantages: simply stunning Disadvantages: none that matter!
absolute stunner....
at around 95,000 GBP you would be forgiven for thinking this car was borderline ridiculous....well, it is, but in the good way.
If you have 95,000 to spend on a new car, this would be my recommendation and if you cant afford that then at least get the 911GT3!
Pro's
*German build quality (never ever goes wrong)
*THE best sounding engine this side of an Aston Martin.
*Breathtaking performance and handling.
*Will destroy anything else in its price bracket(around a track of course!)plus lots of the more expensive cars!
*Gearbox is smooth and tight allowing you to feel like a racing driver on the way to the shops!
Con's
*You have to buy the ceramic brake upgrade, the original discs just dont cut it.
*If you dont like being stared at, dont buy this car.
*If you like creature comforts, dont buy ...
Advantages: True Drivers Car Disadvantages: Doesn't suffer fools
Over the years I have owned two 911's, so I thought that you might like to know a bit more about these road rockets and what they are like to own.
Both of mine were supplied by my local Porsche dealer, it is very important with these cars that you buy them from a reputable source - particularly older models - there are a lot of horror stories out there and it is easy to be bitten if you are not careful. There have been many variants of the 911 over the years so it is vital that you read up on them (there are loads of books available) and that you know what you want and match it to your budget before you start. Finally, service history is crucial with Porsches. Don't touch one that doesn't have FPSH in the description. Aside from anything else, you will find it difficult to sell-on later.
All versions of the 911 have a factory ...
Advantages: Fast, reliable and practical Disadvantages: rear seats for very young ones only but better than nothing
I used to have a Carrera 4 Cab which was quick but this car is in another power league. Internally it is identical to the non-Turbo versions but externally it has lower suspension (does not like traffic calming humps) and has air vents scooped out of both sides of the car. For those who like relaxed driving keeping revs under 4000 the 911 Turbo is like driving any executive cruise machine but floor the pedal to the metal it becomes quite simply a rocket!
Insurance is expensive and fuel consumption can be challenged if driven hard but 25 MPG is easily obtainable. All in all it is a practical supercar and with Tiptronic a relaxed drive even in the city. Depreciation is better than on Ferrari's and the extra 2 (albeit small) seats make it more practical than a Mercedes SL (a 2 seater only) ...
