It does not get much better than this!
Having spent several years with a couple of TVR Cerberas (see my review!), we moved up to the 911 Turbo. We have not regretted it for a moment.
Not as aggressively designed as the TVR, but in my opinion this is a stunningly beautiful car, designed for both aesthetics and function. No curve or slope seems out of place or added only for affect.Importantly, this car can deal with road humps or rough ground so it is pretty at home in town or country.
Engine noise is fab. Powerful but controlled rather than raw. This car does not have to yell "look at me", it is pure class.
Power is astonishing and because the car is so well designed and built, the average driver can actually use much of the horsepower. It is forgiving of the odd error, even in wet conditions and so is actually more fun to drive than the TVR, where even progressive acceleration felt likely to leave you in a ditch.
Other than on track days, we do not get the opportunity to explore the higher speeds this car is so patently
capable of as neither of us wants to lose their license. However, this does not matter so much when you can harness the acceleration of this car. 0-60, moving off from lights, roundabouts, all great opportunities to see what The 911 Turbo can do. And track days with it are pretty good fun too!
The car can be chipped to slightly increase BHP but the necessity for such tinkering is still under discussion in our household.
The manual gearbox is effective, smooth and really links you to the car. I have not tried the tiptronic option but I wonder if it would make you feel rather divorced from some of the driving experience?
The four wheel drive gives great control and road stability and the car really feels like it looks after you. In some ways, wet weather is actually more fun than dry in the Turbo, as it gives you a challenge but not the fear of some other sports cars!
The on board computer seems a bit too detailed when you first use it but you soon become a dab hand at ignoring what needs to be ignored and using the really useful bits. The car gets a bit over protective when it comes to warning you of low fuel ,but that's no bad thing.
The interior is well laid out and spacious but has a very slight retro feel. Back seats are fine for short journeys and can accommodate a child seat so there is no need to trade the car in for a people carrier when up to 2 kids arrive. There are plenty of little storage places and the car comes with a little Porsche umbrella in the passenger door, which is quite cute. You can fit a couple of saddles or a bale of shavings on the back seats which is pretty good for a supercar. Mind you, to be fair, we used to get a bale of hay in the boot of the TVR... The Porsche boot is perfectly adequate but your golf clubs will need to go on the back seat.
I cannot say that the 911 Turbo is cheap to buy or run but it provides pretty good value for money in its class. Servicing and repair costs are not on the Ferrari scale and over the lifetime of the car, the Porsche probably works out cheaper than a TVR as you do not spend so much time in the garage.
I'm afraid that I've never got into the "what type of wheels has it got" thing, bit I am informed that they are very nice too...
The Porsche gives you a feeling of safety both as a driver and as a passenger. Build, wheels and brakes all seem to be up to the job of controlling the power the car produces. The powerful acceleration also minimises your time exposed to danger when you overtake. Because the car can do so much, its drivers do not seem to feel the need to prove their speed to other motorists or overtake in dodgy places. Watch on the moterway, you will often see a 911 in the slow lane, being overtaken by some bloke in a transit van!
Be careful though, the police will be keeping an eye on you whenever they see you and will be just waiting to pounce if you make an error.
Porsche after sales care has been great. We always use a main dealer in Bournemouth and they look after you really well. Both courtesy cars and a collection/ delivery service are available as standard if your car needs to go in got servicing or repair.
The car is comfortable both to drive and to be a passenger in, even on long journeys. We drove me to hospital in it when I was about to have my son and it was still lovely.
Fuel efficiency and emissions are not bad in comparison with other cars of the same ability but no one can argue that it is going to win friends with environmentalists.
The Porsche 911 Turbo feels like a car for grown ups rather than boy racers. It is a beautiful piece of design and engineering but is not lary. People often stop and watch it go past and small boys are liable to wave, but other cars let you out at junctions too. All in all, a fabulous car that is equally at home on a track, the M25 or on quiet country lanes.

Im not into porsche as I dont like the shape of any of the models they manufacture.
My fella looks at me as if im dim as i dont like the shape of them or lambourghinis or any of those kinds of cars. He cant understand me !
We have two cars, mine a Civic Type R and its the best car Ive had in years. Nearly got an imoreza but again, decided didnt like the look and now too many of them around.
