We've had our 924 for a little over a year now, so this seems a good time for an updated opinion (see my other opinion for more details about the car)...
Well, we've put a fair few miles of road under the tyres and basically the car is still running like a star... As you might expect there's been a few minor repairs needed, mostly wear & tear parts with the exception of the starter motor. The starter had to be reconditioned, which wasn't bad at only £30, the task of removing it took about an hour, mainly due to me working in the evenings with only a small torch to illuminate the underside of the car!
I'm struggling to fault the car, she's rapidly approaching 25yrs old and still looks in better condition than most 5yr old cars. On the reliability front there are times when the car will decide it doesn't want to start, usually after being sat in traffic and getting hot under the collar, but given half an hour to cool down she then starts up no problems (there's a lot of references to this problem on the internet)...
As i'd said in my original opinion, if you want a cheap classic sports car without the hastle of constant breakdowns and the need to rebuild the thing from the ground up as it rusts apart, then you can't really go wrong with one of these old porsches. It may not have the power of the 911, but in my view the car looks far better, we even had someone mistake the car for a ferrari (despite the word "Porsche" being along both sides in huge letters!)...
I'm completely struck on this car, I'd hate to see the day when I have to sell it on, right now someone would have to offer me a ludicrous amount of money to part with it - that's how good the car is.

Having one myself i agree fully - you can get a part to help the hot start problem on them, you can also convert them to carbs but its quite dear. I cant see what would get me to part with mine either.

An eye opening op, I'd always known that the 924 was the 'affordable' Porsche, but didn't know it was SO affordable to run.
Nige.
Advantages: Beautiful aerodynamic lines, powerful turbo engine, reliable, fast and quiet Disadvantages: A little heavy on fuel, an ideal 2 + 2 but cramped in the rear
