The Best Porsche (Ciao Hitlist)

... For those of you who aren’t familiar with Porsche's arcane numbering system; each time Porsche change the 911 body shape, they give the car a different 'factory' number. So, while they are all 911's to you and me, to the geeks, they are 965's or 993's or 996's. Anyhow, in August 2000 ... Read review

Anyhow, in August 2000 I schlepped down to my local Porsche dealer to blag a drive in their 996 demonstrator (the latest 911 designation). There seems to be no rhyme or reason to this numbering system, the previous 911 (the last ...
...the showroom. Stuart, my friendly Porsche salesman suggested that I give the (then new) Boxter S a try. Reluctantly I agreed and we took their demonstrator out for a spin. I say reluctantly because I drove one of the very first Boxter 2.5 demonstrators when they came into the UK and, while I was impressed with the way the thing handled and drove, I was somewhat underwhelmed by the performance. Compared to my 911 it felt very flat, even though the ... more

Forget MGF And MX5 Save Up a Bit More

Advantages: Superb Engine, Build Quality, Road Handling
Disadvantages: Interior Space, Plastic Rear Window

The wife bought a second hand Boxter S last year and i have to agree with many a motoring journalist, this surely has to be one of the best sports cars ever made. Impecable build quality (no rattles, no creaks, no squeaks) and a fantastic engine and exhaust note make this an absolute pleasure to drive. I am 6ft 4in so the cabin is tight, but i'll put up with that for the sake of the driving experience. The car came with a metalic blue paint job, ...
...knob, handbrake and roll over bars, heated seats, 6 Disk Changer and it looks the biz. The bonnet has a deep luggage space good enough for 4 good size overnight bags. The boot has a flat, shallowish wide luggage area that will also hold a good amount, but forget your golf bag. The electric roof goes up and down in about 12 seconds. Really easy to operate via single clip inside. No leaks with quiet motoring when up. However, even with the roof down ...

Fun, Fun, Fun!

Advantages: Sexy looks, superb engine, fast!
Disadvantages: Hopeless windscreen wipers

...have wanted to own a Porsche since I was first learning to drive over twenty years ago and found myself in a position to afford one last April. In my heart of hearts, I really wanted a 911 but with that being out of reach finacially I opted for the Boxster S. I found one for sale privately that was 18 months old with just 4,000 miles on the clock in exactly the colour combination (silver - blue hood) that I wanted and the advantage of a hardtop. ...
...First of all the interior is perfect, the leather seats are incredibly comfortable and dials and instruments in exactly the right place (although I do get increasingly annoyed with myself for keep turning the cigarette lighter in order to adjust the volume on the CD player!). The hood goes up and down very smoothly and quickly (12 seconds according to the manual) and is easy to operate. The power of the 3.2 litre engine is unbelievable! I'm not ...

Porsche Boster S

Well, we purchased our new Porsche Boxter S model, I don't know where to start, We ordered it in Atlas Grey Metallic Exterior color, with a black soft top, Full black leather, Bi-Xenon leadlights package 19 inch turbo wheels adaptive sport seats, Sports package the whole works! I was amazed when we flew up to Toronto Ont. to pick her up, Driving home to Nova Scotia was a blast, Power is unreal the car just roared down the highway, pickup speed was ...

The handeling in the boxter is amazing, the only better handeling roadster i think is the BMW z4, The boxter is very comfortable, its ok on gass, But this is not a everyday driving car for us. I think if your in the market for a porsche. Go with the boxter instead of the Cayman S. the soft top convertable comes in handy on sunny days. ...

Stretch a little more to get the S

Advantages: drop top riggid and gorgeous
Disadvantages: hard top is an option pre 03 has plastic rear window

I recently upgraded from a 02 Boxster to a 03 Boxster S. Well to begin with the upgraded power from the 3.2 litre engine is fantastic even when mated to a tiptronic gearbox. To give you a idea of the power differences between the standard boxster and the S is as follows. Boxster 2.7l 6-cyl. /168 kW (228 bhp) @ 6,300 rpm Boxster S 3.2l 6-cyl. /191 kW (260 bhp) @ 6,200 rpm Ideally with the larger output and varicam this is a very punchy and responsive ...
...very similar to Hondas VTI-R engines. The tiptronic gearbox was a simple decision really you can go for the 6 speed manual however with the auto its a simple manual or auto driving decision. The manual choice is quite simple to the point where you dont even need to shift the auto lever to manual mode as the toggle switches (Ideally located on the steering wheel) does all the shifting work for you. The colour I chose was seal grey the previous colour ...

Porsche Boxster 3.2S

Advantages: Fast, good looking, great handling, fun
Disadvantages: Costs, maintenance needs

I recently bought a Porsche Boxster S 3.2. It's red with black interior, ABS, Traction Control, Trip Computer, Surround sound system and the usual Boxster bits. I paid about £12K for this model, X reg, 84000 miles. Then the problems started: 1. Airbag light was on...needed new ECU costing £350 (dealer paid) 2. 2x new rear tyres...Michelin £200 each (dealer paid) 3. Emission Control light came on. Reset by Porsche £50...two days later, came on again! 4. Clutch needed replacing...£870 5. Windscreen chipped (dealer paid) 6. Front and rear CV gaiters needed replacing (dealer paid) 7. Front tyres needed replacing...£260 Having had all this work done, the car is brilliant. Very fast, 6 speed gearbox for shorter gear ratios. 152+ mph and 280bhp. Handles exceptionally well. 25 - 30 mpg; but driving like an old person ...

Jaguar XJR 4.0 litre (1999 model)

Advantages: Performance, luxury, space, Mondeo insurance/servicing costs, reliability
Disadvantages: Fuel consumption, tyre costs

. Perhaps you could do with removing the limiter if you lived in Germany, and it should then hit over 170mph. 2. Space - it's a 4 door saloon with a boot and the performance to match a Porsche Boxster 3.2S. Once you have kids, the Porsche is useless, but the Jag still suits. 3. Servicing - Jaguar main dealers charge huge amounts for servicing, so I have found an excellent independent garage (XJ Engineering in Bentley, Surrey) and the costs are in line with servicing a Ford Mondeo. 4. Insurance - My premium is only about 10% more than the insurance for a 1996 Ford Escort RS2000 16v. 5. Road Tax - Pre-2000 cars are standard road tax - no massive bills like the newer 'gas guzzlers'. 6. Tireless driving - I can drive this car for 300 miles and get out feeling as refreshed as when I started the journey. 7. Engine - I normally ...

Porsche Boxster

Advantages: Great Car!
Disadvantages: Fuel Consumption

I used to own a Porsche and i have to say they are truly great cars, the boxster is a perfect sports cars for a single guy, and 911's and cayennes are gret for families. The tiptronic feature wich was introduced to the boxster is another great advantage. It has brillaint acceleration going from 0-62 in around 5 seconds! The interior just speaks for itself, just pure design. If you ever get the chance to get a Porsche make sure you can get the porsche crest on the seats because that is really the iceing on the cake. If you take into consideration the price for a new or used boxster, its is very good considering that the car is built to perfection and has so much to offer. A++++++ ...
