I have wanted to own a Porsche since I was first learning to drive over twenty years ago and found myself in a position to afford one last April. In my heart of hearts, I really wanted a 911 but with that being out of reach finacially I opted for the Boxster S. I found one for sale privately that was 18 months old with just 4,000 miles on the clock in exactly the colour combination (silver - blue hood) that I wanted and the advantage of a hardtop. At £35K it was just too hard to resist. First of all the interior is perfect, the leather seats are incredibly comfortable and dials and instruments in exactly the right place (although I do get increasingly annoyed with myself for keep turning the cigarette lighter in order to adjust the volume on the CD player!). The hood goes up and down very smoothly and quickly (12 seconds according to the manual) and is easy to operate. The power of the 3.2 litre engine is unbelievable! I'm not sure why they bothered to give it 6 gears as it will quite happily do 75 mph in 2nd. Just a light touch on the accelerator leaves just about anything standing and the sound of the engine is a real turn on. The handling is superb, and I know its boring to say it but I feel really safe in this car. I have honestly never had so much fun driving a car and would recommend anyone to give this serious consideration if you have £30-40K to play with. I don't think its gets much better than this.

14 months on and the car is still awesome, even sorted out the rubbish windscreen wipers! I don't know th Spider Limited Edition, but the Boxster still comes at the top of the 'lack of depreciation' charts, so if you want it have it - you won't regret it!
Alternatively, mine is shortly coming on the market so .................

Cheers for the review, are you still enjoying the car as much? I'm thinking of buying a used Boxster S - the Spyder Limited Edition Anniversary model. I may hang on a few months though as I can see the value dropping a fair bit over the next year due to the introduction of the new shape (even though it looks almost identical!).

Sounds wonderful - I don't think I would ever have 30 - 40 K to play with though. Maureen
