Cockburns Ruby Port
Advantages: Low affordable price Disadvantages: doesnt have the class of older ports
Cockburns Ruby Port
Although i am not a big drinker, when i do drink i generally only drink port. Personally i find taylors to be a much smoother drink however Cockburns Ruby Port is extremely drinkable and being genarally £2 or £3 cheaper that Cockburns Special Reserve a nice alternative and well worth a drink and at an average cost of £8.99 for a 75cl bottle very reasonably priced.
Made in Portugal, Cockburn's Ruby Port is a blend of young wines ... ...vimto". This is a great party drink that really does taste like vimto but with quite a kick!
Other Ports in the Cockburns range include
Special Reserve, Vintage Port, Anno (Late Bottled Vintage) and Quinta dos Canais (Single Quinta Vintage), Fine Ruby, Fine Tawny, and 10- and 20-year-old Tawnies ...

Port & Brandy Makes You Randy....And Posh.
Advantages: Good quality Port for a low price Disadvantages: Not in supermarkets
If you go to Oporto, the main city in the North of Portugal, you will find that it is built (and I use the term loosely, scattered might be better) on the steep banks of a wide river. The river which splits the city in two is the River Douro and is responsible, geographically, for this particular alcoholic concoction. If you look over at the south bank of the river you will see a forest of neon signs. On closer inspection you will notice that the ... ...You will see Taylor's, Sandeman's, Graham's, Dow's and Offley's, the brand I am reviewing here. These are the Port Wine Lodges where all the official Port in the world is made. The names are English because traditionally the vineyards and production of Port have been controlled by the English since the 18th century. You will still hear very posh English accents in the cafes along the river although most of the lodges went into Portuguese hands after ...

A terrific Reserve Ruby Port
Advantages: Good value for money, smooth and supple flavour, good with a cigar Disadvantages: Not widely available
...up a 75cL bottle of Fonseca Bin no.27 Fine Reserve Port for 10.44 euros (around £7.20; I think it also available in the UK from Waitrose supermarkets for £8.60). This Port is a Reserve Ruby which means it is made from better quality grapes and aged for longer before release than regular Ruby Ports which are generally the cheapest on sale.
Fonseca is a British owned Port house which I’ve heard has a good reputation and when a friend and I tucked ... ...opinion it was a very good example of an extremely drinkable, supple and smooth Port which has good length of flavour on the palate. The body of the Port was packed full of rounded and intense dried/dark fruit flavours hinted with a touch of mellow sweet spice. The sweetness of the wine was well balanced in the body and was not sickly or cloying on the palate while the fruit flavours were a touch juicy and lively on the finish which helped balance ...

Smoothest of ports
Advantages: Smooth after dinner drink Disadvantages: Bottle empties to quick
Dows Late Vintage Port is sold by years, the one i'm reviewing is the 1998 that i bought from Asda for £6.98.
Bottle size is 75cl and alcohol is 20% volume compared to say whiskey which is 40% volume. The bottle is dark green and the top is sealed with a cork that can be replaced after opening.
The port is produced in Portugal by Dows which was established in 1798.
Late Bottle Vintage is aged in oak casks for 4 to 6 years and is ready to drink ... ...opened it will last 3 weeks.
Colour of the port is a rich ruby red
Which glass to drink port from ideally it should be drank from a port glass but a white wine glass will work aswell. Using a port glass helps the aromas of the port reach your nose. The aromas are smoky with a hint of cherries and the taste is smooth and you get a hint of chocolate.
Port is best drank with cheese or chocolate but since i don't like cheese its a good reason to eat ...

Not just for Christmas
Advantages: great drink at a great price. It has sucessfully reinvented itself Disadvantages: None
Think Christmas. Think dinner. Think coffee and cigars. Think petit fours. Think warm slippers and roaring fires. There’s something missing. Ah, passed from my neighbours left it comes. The port. Port is traditionally associated with after dinner, with the old school or, mixed with lemon, with granny. Challenge that assertion. Replace those “thinks”. Think anytime, any season. Think pale. Think rich yet not on the pocket. Think ... ...The port I am describing here is Warre’s Otima a new breed of tawny port (although you could be forgiven for thinking that I may be about to launch into a soliloquy about white port). Most people associate port with the first list of “thinks”. A dark red, rich, expensive drink brought out annually at Christmas, and more rarely on other special occasions. Warre’s have set out to challenge this perception with their Otima, and ...
