Advantages: Small, External, Comm & USB, 64 & 128 kbps Disadvantages: Have to use configuration porgram to change BOD settings.
...I have installed many ISDN modems through my work but fine the Lasat Speed II the most reliable and simplest for the end users.
With internal modems if the line hangs then you must reboot but with external you can reset the device.
The Lasat can be set (with the management software) to give Bandwidth on demand BOD linking both channels 64+64 128 kbps.
With two analogue ports on the back you can connect your phone and fax alongside your ISDN line, I find this very handy.
Connection to your PC is through Serial cable or USB and the drivers are simple to install.
The only downside is the BOD configuration which must be done through the management software, this can be a pain it you want to switch it on and off....

...The Acer TravelMate 720TX is an excellent laptop computer, it has a very good size screen which is very crisp. The keyboard layout is excellent and the touchpad is very responsive. The Pentium II processor that powers this laptop makes it very capable of running the latest games and handling graphics packages with ease. This laptop has built in CD, floppy, 2 PCMCIA slots, USB Port, external video connection, external keyboard/mouse connector, parallel/serial ports and built in sound and microphone. Overall it is very good performer and well worth the money....

Advantages: Cost effective upgrade Disadvantages: Some compatibility problems with windows
...The K6 II 500 is a real value for money processor. I have upgraded several PCs in the school where I am a technician. I have used AMD processors in the past with excellent results and because school budgets are tight I have to look at the most cost effective method of upgrading.
The only problems I have had were related to Windows 95 and 98. It seems there are bugs in both operating systems when using any AMD chips of 350Mhz. The latest one I have discovered is related to the USB ports. There is a timing problem with Win 98, but there is a patch for it on the MS site. Also be wary of using AMD above 350Mhz if you are using WIN 95 upgrade rather than OEM. There is a bugfix for the OEM version, but I have not been able to find one for the upgrade.
Speed wise my own feeling is that it runs the software we use (MS Office) as quickly...
