Review of Sony DNF340B.CEQ
Advantages: Small, compact, volume control on earphone wire, cool design, 45 second anti-shock Disadvantages: flimsy latch on lid, appalling battery life
...the moment you buy the Philips AX3301.
It starts off well enough - the unit is very well designed, the display although small is clear enough, the controls nice and easy to use / find, sound quality is fine.
There are even some nice touches for the price such as the volume control remote on the earphone wire (useful if you have your player in a case or in your bag and someone starts talking to you!), and also the dual-battery type holder - use ... ...power?), but I wasn't prepared to risk it and so went with a Sony D-NE511 (also reviewed) - the difference is amazing - hello 85 hour playback times!!!
Sorry Philips but either your product or your quality control sucks. I'll not risk your CD player products in future. ...

...spotted this item , the Maxim Mx 13-33 personal cd player , retailing at £19.99 , but now reduced to a measly £9.99 . Always on the move , I thought why not and promptly parted with my cash ( ok that's a lie , the wife bought it for me with a little in-shop begging ) .

On paper the Phillips CD player is a quality product, looks good sounds good and is good value for money. It has a wide range of features and is suitable everyone who has a CD collection.
The player itself is a good looking player with a cool metal top making it feel expensive and valuable, the rest is made of plastic which unfortunately does feel cheap especially the buttons they feel so cheap and tacky and feel like they are going to pop off when ... ...OK, usually the sound is poor and somehow the player adds a monotonous whirr to your music. Im not done yet ! While listening to music if you decide to use the bass boost feature (DBB) the music will become distorted and boomy so that rules out that function.I have heard a variety of bleeps which seem to happen regular intervals when playing CDs and to top it all off the supplied headphones are useless cheap tacky and the sound quality is aweful ...

Review of Philips AX2330
Advantages: Sounds amazing, looks great, easy to use, smaller than the equivalent in CD racks! Disadvantages: Takes a while changing between discs, Limited space for text input.
...the Sony CDP-CDX350/355, or the Pioneer PD-F1009. That was before I discovered the PD-F1007.
The Sony was discounted because I read a lot of reviews slating it's inability to cope with discs - apparently it has a tendency to drop discs as it's trying to load them; and even lose them in the back of the unit.
The PD-F1009 was discounted in favour of the -7 for the sheer fact that this unit has the ability to read CD Text (which the Sony also does).
... ...44cm. I have a Pioneer Home Cinema Amplifier and it's the same width and depth as that, so stacking the two meant that there was no overhang (hurrah!).
The player comes with a remote control, and for once it's a remote control that operates everything - you may never need to revisit the player ever again once loaded!
