Reviews of Portable CD Players »
Perfect product for poor podless people like me!
Advantages: Better value than many of the smaller mp3 players. Disadvantages: Doesn't play wma or ogg-vorbis files.
...CD player. I'd had an Alba personal stereo in the past, and for £19.99 from Argos (later reduced to £13.31 and almost certainly now out of stock) the PCD604 looked good value. It certainly has been - it's been filling my life with music for the last four months.
For the uninitiated, an mp3 CD player does exactly what it says on the box: as well as playing ordinary audio CDs, it plays mp3 files from a CD. This means you can cram lots of albums onto ... ...the mp3 files are, but we're talking a dozen or more. (For example, I recently burned 761 minutes worth of music onto a single 700MB disc at at the 'near-CD quality' rate of 128kbps; while at 48kbps - which I find adequate for audiobooks - I've managed to squeeze just over 30 hours onto one 650MB disc.)
The mp3 files can be on any ordinary recordable CD-R disc - even mixed data CDs work - it will find any mp3 files on the disc even inside nested ...

Sony D-NE1
Advantages: Great quality all around. Disadvantages: Poor software
...iPod broke, and my newer Sony HDD system is on the blink this little bad boy is still going strong! Pity they're being phased out :( Because it takes ATRAC CD you can fit stacks on CD's onto one CD (the amount depends on the quality you choose, but a safe bet would be around 25). My favourite feature of it however was the battery life, far greater than any iPod, because while listening the CD didn't actually spin as it saved it to a memory. This ... ...as it normally is with Sony products, and again I would say a lot better than an iPod. The whole build quality in fact was fantastic, it just looked so cool and elegant with the tiny concealed buttons around in and the brushed metal back plate. They just don't build them like this any more! ...

Sony D-EJ 1000
Advantages: Good battery time, easy to transport and use Disadvantages: Poor reliability, started to skip after 2yrs despite anti-skip
I purchased this quite a long time ago, prior to the mp3 craze. I wanted it to use on the school bus and the lengthy playback persuaded me to purchase it over other models.
The design is quite nice, at the time it was the slimmest cd player and the metal ring on the lid is a nice touch. If you want to get the full 115 hours of battery life you need to attach a battery connecting pouch which hangs from the cd player ruining the design. If you use ... ...The addition of a remote is quite useful and good to have as to buy it separately it's not cheap.
Although there is anti-skip on the cd player I found that after a year or two on the school bus it did begin to skip and I'd have to hold the cd player at certain angles which definitely wasn't what I'd expected considering the price tag of around £200. The sound quality was ok, nothing fantastic but ok.
Overall given the choice again I wouldn't purchase ...

A thing of the past
Advantages: Easy to use Disadvantages: not of any use anymore
Ah the old fashioned sony Walkman. . . . . . . . . . .
Once upon a time the Walkman's were cool small stylish and the latest trend. In to days world there under the book shelf and forgotten.
This sony walkman was once my birthday present. The walkman can still be used on long journeys this one has very good listening quality and is very quiet when used. (UNLIKE MY MATES WHOS CHUGS ALONG). It is very easy to control unlike some of these fancy ipods, ... ...sony walkman is a useful device that is stylish and does not scratch easily (this keeps it stylish forever!)
Further more the battery power will last a long time and it will warn you when it is running out. The sony device being very thin is also very portable so you can place it in a back pack and not worry about it taken up space. In addition the sony walkman is very light.
In todays time tis is not needed unless of course you have load of cds ...
