My SL-CT790 and me
Advantages: Small, stylish, good feature, weights nothing Disadvantages: Small buttons, alas discontinued
...really.
Here comes my Panasonic SL CT790, my recipe for peace..
~~~~~~~ Design ~~~~~~~
It is a small but nifty CD player barely bigger than a CD itself and has the shape of a CD smaller and you will have to cut your CDs in order to play them and sooooooo light.
It is sliky silver with brushed chrome lid, about 3cms 1 inch in width. It has all the essential buttons on the side of the unit, Play, Stop, Pause, Fast Forward/Rewind and a hold ... ...are special rechargeable batteries from Panasonic rectangular and weight nothing, they are located in a small compartment underneath the CD deck, which is not such a problem since you do not have to see or change them.
Again, my player came with a charger which plugs itself onto the unit and charge the battery and though I would believe that Panasonic would not be as cheeky as selling you the unit without it, I cannot vouch for that.
Strong and Reliable; A Brilliant Player!
Advantages: Long battery life; durable. Disadvantages: Wide and slightly bulky.
The Panasonic SL-SX390 Personal CD Player was the second personal CD player I ever owned. The first was an old Goodmans model, which didn't have anti-shock, ate batteries up like a starving teenager, and was not very durable at all - I dropped it from about waist height onto carpet by accident and it broke, forcing me to seek an alternative product - this one.
Originally I bought it simply because my friend had one, and that it worked well, but ... ...fact that it was fairly cheap for a remote-controlled CD player - £59.99 from Dixons I think, all that time ago!
So it's down to the basics:
-Sound Quality-
Although I don't know much about sound quality, I could not and cannot find anything wrong with the sound quality of this CD player. In fact the headphones it comes with are excellent too, giving a very good bass sound. Although I own a CD with a very deep, long scratch in it, the SL-SX390 ...
A Good Find
Advantages: Great Sound Quality Disadvantages: Battery Life
I bought this at the duty free in Birmingham Airport. I love it. It may say on the box that it lasts 62 hours, but that is only using a combination of the in - built batteries, and some extra AA ones. If you use its own batteries, expect about 11 hours. The sound quality on this thing is, however, amazing. It really shocked me. Also, the headphones supplied are good, they fit really well and the extra remote is useful. It is very easy to use, and ...
Another Japanese great!
Advantages: excellent sound quality, lightweight, anti skip Disadvantages: plastic coating peels off easily, earpiece keeps falling out
I had a Sony diskman, which died on me after years of abuse so I made my merry way to our local Dixons to get a replacement . My request? What have you go that's been made in Japan?
I'll admit I got a few funny looks but when it comes to audio equipment, the Japs certainly know their stuff. I settled for this lovely model, which comes in a dashing shade of silver.
The sound on this is absolutely second to none. There are EQ buttons and you can ... ...just standard). It's just crystal clear and a pleasure to use. You can shuffle tracks, repeat individual ones and even repeat play the whole CD plus there's a volume limiter system on here as well. You can skip individual tracks or use the search functions to find your favourite bit of the song in both directions. The anti-skip facility is excellent and ensures you really can use this diskman on the move. It has a hold function and a mains socket. ...
