iMP 550 Advantages: Sleek, svelte design. Disadvantages: Battery life falls far short of the advertised 55 hours I have owned my iMP 550 since shortly after it was released. I can't remember exactly when that was but it has been at least a year! I love my CD player. It looks great and it does what I need it to do. It has several awards including a CNET editors award: CNET Editor's Choice "If you're looking for an MP3 CD player, you'll be hard-pressed to find a better choice at any price." There are problems with it however... First and foremost is the battery ... ...their products, this seems to be a gross overestimation as far as I am concerned. I can get about 5-10 hours out of my 550 and have never come close to the proclaimed 55. This is annoying and people should be made aware of it even though it hasn't affected me too badly. Another fault is with the startup time. I can't help but feel that the 550 pays the price for its beauty by having its efficiency and functionality reduced. fooled customer by iriver Advantages: much, in theory Disadvantages: shuts down by itself in 5 secs Maybe I was the only unluck one with the following problem, but it exists just the same: 5-10 seconds after I start a CD, it stops and shuts itself down. Sometimes it plays, even for a long time, but then suddenly stops. I have send them to their distributor, and this is the real important part about i-river. They kept the device for 10 days, and then said they didn't encounter any problem with the device and sent it back as it was, so I am left ... ...the purpose it was designt for - listening to MP3 CD's !!! So, think twice before buying this product!! Sense-ational Advantages: Slim and sexy, upgradeable, built-in FM radio, long battery life Disadvantages: High up-front cost There is nothing that doesn't appeal about this CD-Digital audio player. I say digital audio player, because it doesn't just play MP3's like most other CD players - due to the fact that you can upgrade the software which runs the device, it can play all the latest types of digital audio. There have been five such updates since I purchased this device, and the company promises that there are still plenty more to come. I cannot rave about this device ... ...I wasn't very unhappy. There were so many things I didn't like about it, in a way I was kinda glad that I could get a new one. So after a month of painstaking searching, I finally came across this marvellous device from iRiver. I had never heard of the company before, but after a bit of surfing, found that people in their home country of South Korea loved their products. And I can understand why - this device had everything that I wanted. The street machine brings portable music into the 21st century. Advantages: Great range of features. has a great battery life. is quite loud, with great base. Disadvantages: quite heavy. some of the smaller parts are less durable. Firstly the Steepletone Street machine is an impressive product. It boasts a huge range of features and different music formats you can use. My first impression, when my street machine arrived in the post, was that it is a great looking product. it houses a classic look with a 2st century twist. All 8 corners have protectors, the 20w sub woofer has metal grills for protection and each 5 watt speaker has plastic speaker protectors.
