Playing around with the Nex iA
Review of Frontier Labs NEX iA by
Drone007
Advantages: Small & long battery life
Disadvantages: small buttons and a complicated file structure
The Nex iA is a well priced player and although may not be top notch in sound quality or features, is very successful I providing value for money.
-Physical Size-
The player itself is quite small, even with its fabric case on, allowing it to easily fit into a pocket. It makes use of its space in the positioning of buttons and sockets etc. in easy to access area. Despite its fairly small size, it is not small enough to easily loose and can fit comfortably ... ...largely due to being powered by 2 AA batteries.
It is made from a strong white plastic which could look cheap but protects it well from scratches. It also has a tendency to look like a cheap ipod. -Features & Storage-
The player itself supports MP3 and WMA format, with OGG being introduced in an update. The playback depends on the headphones and bit-rate of the songs but on the whole is good quality, although not quite as good as an ipod. I generally ...

Joggers Dream
Review of Frontier Labs NEX II by
christine_g_hall
Advantages: Cheap, small, light and uses Compact Flash. Super easy to use with Window Media Player.
Disadvantages: Uses standard AA batteries rather than rechargable. Uses up batteries quickly when connected on USB. Does not support all Compact Flash cards.
Shopping list

Compatible with WMA format (so that you can fit more tracks in less space)
Under £100
Either 128 Meg memory or expandable with Compact Flash
Why I needed it
-----------------
I recently had a lapse of intelligence that resulted in my agreement to run a 10 kilometre race as part of a works team. Having never run before, it was suggested that listening to music while I ran would help me ... ...To this end I began sifting through my collection of audio gadgets from years past, but with little luck. My trusty old walkman (circa 1990) was far too heavy. The CD Diskman kept skipping and even the minidisk player was a disappointment.
What I looked for
-----------------
I wanted something lightweight, solid state (i.e. no moving parts to skip), capable of holding at least a couple of hours music all for under £100. As I already had a couple ...

Ipod shuffle.
Review of Apple iPod shuffle 1 GB by
sophie1311
Advantages: The clip feature and sound quality.
Disadvantages: Not many features
I love my ipod shuffle. I do have an ipod nano as well, but I find that i'm using the shuffle more and more over the nano. Firstly I find that the size and design of the shuffle (clip feature) is far more useful than the nano, it means you don't have to worry about having a pocket to put it in and is particularly useful for situations like the gym. You also don't have to worry about the screen getting scratched as obviously there isn't one!
The ... ...it needs recharging. I paid £22 for mine off bigpockets when they were selling all the old models off cheaper which is no doubt an absolute bargain. I also feel that the sound quality is as good as all the other Ipod types. The choice of colours is also good so you can pick one to suit your style.
The thing with the shuffle is you obviously don't know what song is going to come next, so I make sure that I only put my favourite songs on it in groups ...
