~~~~~~~ History of Poser ~~~~~~~
Poser 1.0 was developed by Larry Weinberg and published by Fractal Design in 1995. Later releases have been published over the years by different publishers with an ever growing user community. Poser 6.0 was published in March 2005 by e frontier and more recently also published Poser Pro 7.0.3 by Smith Micro Software.
~~~~~~~ Features ~~~~~~~
Dynamic Hair and Cloth
Poser's Hair Room allows users to create 3D hair for objects (figures or props), while the Cloth room is used for creating realistic fabrics. Even though these features were intended to make customization simple, the results can seem a bit disappointing/unrealistic.
Animation Controls
The most tedious part of animation is setting keyframes. Poser eliminates much of the repetitive work making animation fun again. The automatic keyframe creation tool allows users to dive right in and start animating scenes. Also the Inverse Kinematic (IK) tool is also useful if you are using pre-rigged 3D characters.
Powerful Rendering Capabilities
This is where Poser has really improved since its last release. Works of art can be rendered in many styles including Shadow Catcher, Subsurface Scattering, Image Based Lighting, Ambient Occlusion, Cartoon Outlines, Ambient Occlusion and more.
Complete 3D Figure Design
Poser 6's intuitive 3D toolset makes working with figures easily accessible. Male, female, children, mannequin, and animal models are available to be manipulated precisely how you want. Users can morph facial expression, full body, body parts, ethnicities and gender. Additionally, models are edited in a 3D environment with the possibility of using lighting and shadowing effects.
Content
Poser 6 comes with 2 adult figures (one male and one female) James and Jessi. In addition, there are preset animated and still poses, full body morphs, facial expressions and morphs, hair, clothing, light sets, and more that can be used on any character/object.
~~~~~~~ System Requirements ~~~~~~~
Windows (2000, XP or Vista) / Mac OS X v.10.3.9+ 700 MHz Pentium processor 512 MB system RAM (768 MB or more recommended) OpenGL enabled graphics card or chipset recommended (recent NVIDIA GeForce and ATI Radeon preferred) 24-bit color display, 1024 x 768 resolution 1 GB free hard disk space (4 GB recommended) Internet connection required for Content Paradise DVD-ROM drive
~~~~~~~ Conclusion ~~~~~~~
I am not an animator, a graphic designer or even a professional programmer. However, I do appreciate good looking animations that I can do myself without a degree in animation development. I have tried several other products (not needed to be mentioned here, wait for the review), and I do find Poser 6 the easiest to use. Nonetheless, Poser 6 does have its bad points; the content that is shipped with Poser 6 is nowhere near sufficient. Fortunately, there is a well establish community where you can get resources for free. Additional content can also be purchased on their sister site (ContentParadise). Although in theory you only need 1GB of free space to install the program, by the time you start making your own animations your free space slowly dwindles away (unless you have an abundance of free space at you disposal for your animations).
~~~~~~~ Recommendation ~~~~~~
If speed is your priority with enough free space on your machine to work with, then Poser 6 is definitely worth it.
...I brought my copy of poser 6 off Amazon uk it was £120.00 so i had to use my birthday money to cover it ,a little worried at what i had paid i hoped i was going to be able to use it ok.
It took over a week to arrive bit when it did i was really pleased,the installation info was straight forward and on my laptop it took just over 1 hour to install but my laptop is quite old so this is probably the maximum.
Whe the first page came up it was a little ... ...tutorial so i took the poser tutorial on the sotware,i learnt how to move my charecter and how to render it,(put all the adjustments onto my dummy),i still have a awful lot to learn to get faces looking real and i need to learn how to grow hair on my dummy but on the whole im really pleased with what this program does even though i wont be using it for animation,i do think even though £120.00 is lower than the rrp it was alot for this product but ...
