literature, the visual arts, film, architecture, and music. This book treats artists, intellectuals, critics, and social scientists as if they were all members of a loosely constituted and quarrelsome political party.
Advantages: Delicious! Disadvantages: Lack of nutritional information; expensive
thought hot chocolate was meant to be made out from cocoa powder, it was nice having a hot chocolaty drink while watching TV or surfing the net so my fingers won't shake while typing!
Anyway . . .
I had butlers hot chocolate drink as a Christmas gift from my uncle who lives in Ireland and is married to a lovely Irish lady. It had arrived to me as a parcel with a Christmas card inscribed with one word only . . . ENJOY!
It may sound lame but to be honest I was gutted to receive such a gift, I was expecting more! However, I had a look and I was surprised to learn that it was supposed to be drunk not eaten! I never heard of this brand and never knew that hot chocolate can come in pieces! The only hot chocolate I knew was the cocoa powder or chocolate powder! Subsequently I took the box and had a close look; I wanted to ...
Advantages: Attractive packaging, attractive price point, simple to make. Disadvantages: Not chocolatey enough!!
Firstly, I would like to point out that although this product comes under the category of "Cocoa (Instant)", it is not cocoa - it is Hot Chocolate! That means that it is a drink made with "real" chocolate, not with cocoa powder.
I have mixed feelings about Butlers chocolates in general - I have tasted many of their products, and I love some of them, and am not so keen on others. So, it was with interest that I tried this new product. It has only just become available here in Ireland, I am not sure you can buy it in the UK as yet.
First things first - the box itself is very attractive. It is a rich chocolatey brown colour with the Butlers logo in gold, and a photo of a pair of hands holding a teacup with a delicious looking chocolate drink in the cup, and a piece of the chocolate that you find inside dropping into the drink ...
Advantages: Great characters, situations familiar to all of us Disadvantages: Slightly unsatisfying ending
I'm not a big fan of crime novels, but with Jasper Fforde and Christopher Brookmyre making such consistently brilliant efforts at subverting the genre, my resistance is being eroded fairly swiftly.
Christopher Brookmyre has established a formidable reputation for Scottish crime thrillers. Full of bodily fluids and lurid characters, they're generally hilarious to read, but shot through with such extreme violence that there's no chance of them ever being left in the 'humour' section.
A Tale Etched in Blood and Hard Black Pencil is told entirely in the present tense, and follows two linked story strands - the progress through school of a group of Scottish children from their first day right through to their leaving 'dance', and a murder investigation about twenty years later.
Brookmyre's previous works have often made a big deal ...

Postmodernism has been a buzzword in contemporary society for the last decade. But how can it be defined? In this Very Short Introduction" Christopher Butler challenges and explores the key ideas of postmodernists and their engagement with theory literature the visual arts film architecture and music. He treats artists intellectuals critics and social scientists 'as if they were all members of a loosely constituted and quarrelsome political party' - a party which includes such members as Cindy Sherman Salman Rushdie Jacques Derrida Walter Abish and Richard Rorty - creating a vastly entertaining framework in which to unravel the mysteries of the 'postmodern condition' from the politicizing of museum culture to the cult of the politically correct."
