Has anyone else had experience of problems with a Baxi Potterton Suprima 120L wall mounted natural gas boiler? We had a new Suprima 120L fitted in November 2002 since when we have had a catalogue of problems including explosive ignition, and incomplete combution giving high levels of carbon monoxide. We have have numerous visits from Potterton engineers and as, the appliance is now out of guarantee, from British Gas Homecare engineers, in which most parts have been replaced apart from the heat exchanger itself. The last part to be replaced was the burner element, after which the problems seemed to be fixed. Now after only 2 months of OK service, there is a new problem. The pump continues to operate after the boiler shuts off, for hours unless you swith off at the wall and reset the boiler with the red button. The Heateam have been less sympathetic to our plight. So I ask if anyone else has had similar problems with a Suprima. Generally, Baxi Potterton have a good reputation in the trade so I wondered if we just have a one-off rogue boiler, or whether there is a more widespread experience from which we can learn. We really are at the end of our tether with this boiler.

Hi, Have exactly the same problem with my Suprima 120L. Cuts out and pumps still runs to press reset switch. Most times the bolier now wont even fire up. Cost me £200 for potterton to come out ( 3 weeks outside warrantly!). They replace everything but the heat exchanger. 1hr after engineers leave, it fails again. Had them out 4 times!
Anyone resolved this problem? Thanks

Hi i am a heating engineer so i know alot about these boilers and the problems we have had with the pcbs the main problem is that the board gets too hot and resistors burn out which is why the ones next to the wall will go first !! potterton are aware of these problems and have recently brought out a new pcb which is in a plastic box to protect it from overheating issues !!!

Hello
I would just like to add a comment to this review, and if anyone knows how to solve it then I would be very grateful.
We have a potterton suprima, so does everyone in our new housing estate.
And guess what, many (and I’m not exaggerating) have an identical problem, which sounds like yours.
Not only does the pump remain running after it switches off, but it can fail to light, or switch off on its own. And we've pressed the reset button so many times on ours that the plastic around it has cracked!
Ours will now go off many times a day, there is now so little hot water that we can barely shower!
We've noticed some dry joints on the PCB, which when soldered improved the boiler for about a week, and there is also lots of discolouring in the centre of the board. Also, people who have their boilers so that the PCB side of the boiler against the wall seem to have the problems a lot worse that those that don’t.
Our next port of call is buying a new PCB.
My opinion potterton suprimas are terrible boilers, and as we have spoken to potterton, and they were no help, and weren’t even concerned that so many had broken, I would heartily recommend against anyone buying one.
