Should have done it sooner
Advantages: No mess to clean up afterwards. Disadvantages: Having to supervise as they can fall down the toilet!
I started potty training my son when he was around 18months. Ideally I wanted to start earlier but prior to that we were in the middle of planning our wedding and honeymoon so I had to wait till we got back before we started properly. I got conflicting advice when I first started which didn't help. My mum was telling me to put him on the toilet straight away but my mum-in-law was telling me to use a potty. What was I to do? I ended up getting a potty ... ...duck thingy for upstairs. It was a seat which fitted over the normal standard toilet seat but had the head of a duck on the front. My son took to the potty straight away but he took a while to get used to the 'Toilet Duck' as he was scared of it. Bless him! When he did get the hang of it it was brilliant. No more cleaning up messy poo. Just a flush and it was gone. As he got older I had the problem of him firing his wee up so after a couple of months ...

Also a mobility aid for disabled kids!
Advantages: steady, secure, easy to use, hygenic, Disadvantages: none!
My youngest son has mild cerebral palsy, so we were looking for a seat that would give him the very best security when sitting on the loo. We have a grab rail to one side of the toilet and he was finding the usual child seats too unsteady, which made him afraid to even sit on them. When we fitted this seat we were very impressed, and so was he!!! Its so easy to use and such a simple idea! More hygenic also in that you don't end up with a childs seat ...

My son’s Royal Throne
I bought my son a royal potty from Argos after visiting a friend when he was one year old and Although I considered him to be to young to consider potty training I did want him to have a potty around so that it was a familiar item. What is the Royal Potty? It is a potty that appears to be more comfortable than a normal potty as it is shaped liked a throne with arms and a back. It also has a splash protector at the ... ...has an additional function that is a fanfare sound when the child passes urine that is activated by the sensor. It is made with plastic that is easy to wipe. It also came with a sticker reward chart My experience
First experience
When I first bought the potty we were living in temporary accommodation so I had to keep it in our room. This was where he was changed. I decided to sit him on it each time and ask him if he had a wee in his ...

No nappies anymore!
Advantages: comfortable, no spillages, easy to clean, sturdy Disadvantages: expensive
When my son was two years and a few-months-old he still did not want to use his little potty. One evening my husband went to the local John Lewis and bought him a very nice Baby Bjorn potty chair. It was also much more expensive than our old potty. I was not happy about it and wanted to bring it back to the store. However, our son started to use it immediately. There was one problem at the beginning; he could not get used to to seeing what was in ... ...the bathroom, wash the potty, bring it back and then repeat the process two or three times more. Then I found a solution. Every time he jumped of the potty I put a toilet paper on the top. It worked very well and he started to do it himself. It continued for a month or so and then he simply got used to to the surprises in the potty. He is now a four-year-old boy and he still likes using it. It is so comfortable that he prefers it to the toilet seat ...

No more toilet trauma
Advantages: Doesn't move at all Disadvantages: may have some splashes - see review
I actually started a search for a decent toilet seat this year after toilet training my son in the summer. I couldn’t find a seat to fit our toilet; I think in all honesty we have a non-standard shaped toilet, more oval than round. I had bought a Mothercare own brand seat that I think is designed to fit under the actual seat, but because of my odd loo shape it wouldn’t fit, so we had to put it on top of the seat which made it impossible for my son ... ...friend had the same seat and I can’t say I was overly impressed with the fit anyway on a ‘normal’ shaped loo.
So my hunt began for a loo seat and after looking around various sites I came across 2 that looked interesting. The Baby Bjorn and the Family trainer seat. The 2nd is designed to replace your existing seat, which I decided in the end was too much to pay (£30) if it then didn’t fit our odd shaped loo. Most people with children would generally ...
