No nappies anymore!

Advantages: comfortable, no spillages, easy to clean, sturdy
Disadvantages: expensive

When my son was two years and a few-months-old he still did not want to use his little potty. One evening my husband went to the local John Lewis and bought him a very nice Baby Bjorn potty chair. It was also much more expensive than our old potty. I was not happy about it and wanted to bring it back to the store. However, our son started to use it immediately. There was one problem at the beginning; he could not get used to to seeing what was in ...
...the bathroom, wash the potty, bring it back and then repeat the process two or three times more. Then I found a solution. Every time he jumped of the potty I put a toilet paper on the top. It worked very well and he started to do it himself. It continued for a month or so and then he simply got used to to the surprises in the potty. He is now a four-year-old boy and he still likes using it. It is so comfortable that he prefers it to the toilet seat ...

No more toilet trauma

Advantages: Doesn't move at all
Disadvantages: may have some splashes - see review

I actually started a search for a decent toilet seat this year after toilet training my son in the summer. I couldn’t find a seat to fit our toilet; I think in all honesty we have a non-standard shaped toilet, more oval than round. I had bought a Mothercare own brand seat that I think is designed to fit under the actual seat, but because of my odd loo shape it wouldn’t fit, so we had to put it on top of the seat which made it impossible for my son ...
...friend had the same seat and I can’t say I was overly impressed with the fit anyway on a ‘normal’ shaped loo. So my hunt began for a loo seat and after looking around various sites I came across 2 that looked interesting. The Baby Bjorn and the Family trainer seat. The 2nd is designed to replace your existing seat, which I decided in the end was too much to pay (£30) if it then didn’t fit our odd shaped loo. Most people with children would generally ...

If you are not potty about potties try this!

Advantages: no cleaning out messy potties
Disadvantages: doesn't come with a transport bag

Toilet training - it is one of those milestones that most parents dread I think. Amongst friends with children bladder and bowel movements can take up rather too much of the conversation and chances are that many parents have quite a stressful time trying to ditch the nappies. My first daughter was rather reluctant to leave her nappies behind her - sure she liked the idea of peppa pig pants, she even quite enjoyed sitting on a potty in front of c-beebies ...
...This is why we bought one of these seats. Now taking aside the fact of my child being quite a late starter on the toilet front, I have to say this is an excellent product. If you have ever cleaned out a potty you will know it is not a very nice experience at all - worse than nappies for me - and this seat enables you to use your existing toilet to train. At £19.99 it is not a cheap item - I bought mine from John Lewis. You could probably buy a seat ...

A Very Smart Potty!

Advantages: Lovely deep removeable insert
Disadvantages: A little pricey

My little girl has had a cheap potty since she was around 13 months old but would never sit on it and just pushed it around the floor like a car. At only 18 months old she is young to start potty training but we have had some success. The Baby Bjorn Smart Potty is a lovely sturdy and well made potty. It has a removable white pan insert which is excellent for cleaning and nice and deep to prevent spills. It must be really comfortable too as Imogen ...
...without getting pins and needles. It has a non slip bottom which has prevented it from being pushed around the floor like a car and is great on our laminate and bathroom tiles. It also comes in a great range of colours to suit you child or your bathroom decor. At around £20 it is a little expensive but I would say most definatly worth it. ...

Ikea Step Stool: Step up to the mark

Advantages: Sturdy, fairly attractive, does its job and encourages imagination
Disadvantages: A choice of colours would be nice

I took a trip to Ikea to buy a storage unit for my 1 year old son's bedroom and while I was there thought I'd get a couple of these steps to help him reach the taps etc when he's a little older. I would have thought you could get them everywhere but actually from my research online I couldn't find these small, cheap versions anywhere obvious hence the forward-thinking purchase whilst I was in IKEA. They cost £1.99 each and are fairly attractive in ...
...top and strips round the bottom edge to stop the stool slipping. They are a cheap, in-offensive, sturdy product which will perform the function they are meant for, or so I thought ... ... when we got home it turned out that I was completely wrong, I would never have guessed that a £1.99 stool could bring such enjoyment to a young child. My son climbed on it, used it as a drum, sat on it, hid things under it, stuck his fingers through the holes, put ...
