A solar powered water fountain for the garden.

Advantages: Cheap and easy to set up.
Disadvantages: You need the sun to shine for it to work.

After building a fish pond we had some pond liner left over and not liking anything to go to waste, particularly when liner is so expensive, we decided to build a nature pond on some ground near my veggie patch. This is of course the royal ?we?. I decided and my partner was sent outside to do the building. It is not very big, about 6? by 3? and about 12? at the deepest parts. The idea of this pond was to leave it and see what comes to live in it. Apart from a few plants on the sides and a left over lily and oxygenating weed from the other pond the idea is for nature to take over. My only real concern was that the water may become stagnant if it was just standing so after some research I decided on a small solar powered fountain just to circulate and aerate the water. Solar power

Advantages: small cheap easy to use
Disadvantages: only mono sound

the solar dab radio is a good idea if you work outside or if you want a radio without any trailing cables in the conservatory. its small and light, won t cost anymore on batteries because it comes supplied with a rechargable inbulit battery that is charged by the small solar panel on top of the radio, onced charged will work for upto 27 hours. it also will work of the mains with the supplied mains adaptor. the solar dab comes in a range of colours including black, white, red, green or even pink. the DAB tuner is good has it will pick up a range of dab stations avalable in my area. you can also plug in other devises and use its inbuilt speaker such has ipod/mp3 players. it has a 3.5mm jack output for headphones. the cost is around £80 tthis will make an excellent christmas present. ...

Freeloader solar charger- I'm not seeing the light

Advantages: small, light and cheap.
Disadvantages: unreliable, faulty and a letdown.

I bought a Freeloader Charger so that I would be able to charge my digital camera whilst on a 5 week expedition to Greenland. When it arrived, the packaging seemed fairly cheap, making me unsure about the quality of the product, but i tested it using the USB charging method and it seemed fine. When I got to Greenland, my camera battery lasted for around 4 weeks of the expedition, but when I needed to charge it for the last week the Freeloader did not work. It appeared to be charging the main unit, but when I plugged it in to my camera nothing happened at all. I was angry that I missed out on capturing the last week of a trip that would be hard to repeat. Unreliable product, if I needed a solar charger again, I would invest in a more expensive model. The price attracted me to this and it was not a good choice. ...
