Power Stone Collection (PSP)

...of its quality games and Power Stone was one of them.

Now as if to spit on the grave of the Dreamcast, Namco have allowed Power Stone onto the PSP....OUCH

What we have here is basically a compilation of Power Stone 1 and 2.
For anyone who hasn't played it, Powerstone is basically a mad 3d scrapper with the aim of collecting the 3 power stones in each stage in order to turn you character into a super powered battering ...

Its hard to recommend this game as you could go buy a Dreamcast and Power stone 1 and 2 for less that this and it would play better.
However, its a solid little battler that is a lot of fun for a few days but nothing more.  ... more

The Dreamcast was a killer machine.
Everyone who owned one always lists it as one of there favourites consoles, yet it died a quick and very painful death at the hands of the PS2.
It will always be remembered for some of its quality games and Power Stone was one of them.

What we have here is basically a compilation of Power Stone 1 and 2.
For anyone who hasn't played it, Powerstone is basically a mad 3d scrapper with the aim of collecting the 3 power stones in each stage in order to turn you character into a super powered battering machine.
Its a fun little system made all the better by the splattering of weapons and destructive scenery that litter each stage.
It doesn't get much better than clattering an opponent across the screen with a support beam before whipping out a minigun and spraying him with bullets.
Its fun and very very fast.

The graphics are very colourful and vibrant. It has a very cartoony look that suits the violence well.

Sadly the only problem lies with the hardware and not the game.
The fights take place in quite large arenas that are quite hard to see on the PSP screen.
This means its easy to miss weapons and lose track of your opponent for a second.
That second could mean the difference between life and death.

Also there is no new content at all, which is a bit slack.
A few new weapons or characters would of been nice.

Naturally there is a multiplayer included, and it dose that job well.
4 player ad hoc is fast and frantic and adds a lot to the longevity of the title.
