After many years of trying for a baby, we found out through medical reasons that we only had a 1% chance of conceiving naturally. Therefore, when we finally found out that our dream had come true and I was pregnant, I wanted to try to do everything possible to bring our miracle baby into the world safe and healthy.
On both my midwife’s advice and my own knowledge, I went straight out to purchase my first box of Pregnacare.
******What is Pregnacare?******
I did enquire about how long these vitamins could be taken safely before conception, and I was told that there is no harm at all in taking these for a long length of time (perhaps a useful piece of knowledge for others like myself who are taking a while to conceive?) I would recommend enquiring with the chemist and/or doctor yourself before taking these for a length of time, though, as people may say different. I was also told that this vitamin ‘could’ aid in preparing your body and helping you to conceive easier, but again, this is hearsay. One of these reasons may be, though, is because Pregnacare contains a wide range of vitamins within each tablet (I will discuss that further down in this report) to boost dietary requirements.
It is also said on the back of the pack that the first 12 weeks of the pregnancy is most beneficial with taking these vitamins, though it is also strongly recommended throughout as it helps with the growth and strength of the baby.******The Packaging******
These vitamins come in an average sized box which is mainly white with an image of a pregnant woman on the side. Other dominant colors are green and orange. There is also a wide source of information on the front, back and sides of the box allowing purchasers to read with ease before buying. There is also an information leaflet inside. Each box contains 30 vitamins held within two foil sheets. These tablets are then able to be simply pushed out.
******How to Take Pregnacare******It couldn’t be simpler! Only one tablet per day with your main meal is sufficient. It must be swallowed with a glass of cold liquid, though not chewed. This could cause some difficulties due to the size of the tablet (see section below)
******The Tablet******The tablet is quite large compared to many tablets, approximately the length of a false nail before cutting (sorry I do not have my measuring tape on me!) and a quarter of that in width.
I was slightly worried at first about taking these, as I have always had a problem swallowing tablets, but these tablets are quite smooth and slide down easily as long as you drink it with a cold glass of liquid and plenty of it!It is difficult to describe the taste, though you only taste it quickly and has no after-taste. My trick it to place it between my teeth before taking a drink so it doesn’t touch your tongue! It is rather a dull taste, not describable and hardly memorable, though not nasty either.
The tablets are slow and steady to disperse within you, so this helps prevent any sickness. Also, if you are suffering morning sickness, I would suggest a time when you are not feeling as bad, although I have been informed that it I still beneficial to take the tablet as the goodness will still stay inside of you as long as you are not sick straight after taking it! (difficult to plan I know!)******The Vitamins Included******
Within one tablet, you will find 17 vitamins and minerals giving a careful balance perfect for the needs of pregnant women. Bare in mind, when pregnant, your dietary needs change, and often need a different level and a different set of vitamins. Although you are given the majority of what you need within these tablets, they are not a replacement for a healthy diet (although I’m not going to go on about that too much as I am sure my diet is not too great as I have cravings for sausage and chips!!)Pregnacare contains so much more then folic acid, a must in pregnancy! As it is designed specifically for pregnant woman it contains a careful balance of vital vitamins and minerals as follows;******Costs******
I brought my pack/s from Tesco’s chemist, costing me £4.99. I have looked around and seen varying costs from as little as £3.99 in some places to as much as £9.99 in others.Personally, the mid range cost I paid is perfect. There is a whole months supply and can you really put a price on your unborn baby’s wellbeing?
I have seen other pregnancy vitamins with far less included for more in price, so I believe that this is a good price. It can all add up throughout the approximate 9 months of pregnancy, so many people take them for the majority of months, and then find the necessary vitamins within your diet.Larger boxes of 90 tablets are also available for purchase for approximately £12.75.
******Other information******This product is suitable for vegetarians!
Also, check with your doctor or midwife if you are on anti-coagulants (blood thinners).
With so many worries during pregnancy, taking this one tablet a day will help ease this type of worry and will aid in the growth and development of your unborn baby.
There is also Pregnacare Plus, a new and improved vitamin which is slightly more expensive and contains even more vitamins, though midwifes and myself (although Im not qualified) believe that this other type is no better than the original Pregnacare.Does it work? It has been scientifically proven that it reduces complications with your child, though personally as this is my first baby and I still have another 11 weeks of pregnancy left, I can not tell you for certain, though I would rather not find out!

I looked at these when I discovered I was pregnant but they really are too big for me to swallow.
