I’ve bought fans before and always been disappointed that they can be quite complicated to put together, but this one was so simple I could almost have put it together standing on my head – OK, well that may be a slight exaggeration but it really was easy.

Temperatures in London reached 31 degrees on Tuesday 8th June. Our attic flat is like a furnace and the temperature is regularly significantly higher inside than it is out. I’m no physicist but I believe that this is probably because heat rises and the roof is not protected by anything other than slate! So we’re sandwiched in the middle – not pleasant!
We already have a standing fan unit but that seems to be permanently located in the bedroom where my husband spends most of his time! I think there’s an unfair trade there perhaps, but never mind. As a result, I was out shopping in the sweltering heat when I wandered into Woolworth where desk fan units were piled high.
I decided that a 12” unit should be adequate for my needs. The only brand available was this Prem-I-Air Model made by a company called EHS based in Manchester that I’d never heard of before. The cost of the fan was £14.99.
I’ve bought fans before and always been disappointed that they can be quite complicated to put together, but this one was so simple I could almost have put it together standing on my head – OK, well that may be a slight exaggeration but it really was easy.
The manual instructions were clear and simple to follow either through the numbered instructions or via use of the pictures. You have to unscrew a blade lock nut (anti clockwise) and the guard lock nut (clockwise) before you can mount on the rear guard onto the motor housing. You then secure the blade lock, apply the fan blades; they really simply snap in and it seems impossible to get it wrong. The blade lock nut is then replace before applying the front guard to the rear guard. These then snap together with interlocking plastic devices. The only thing that I needed a screwdriver for was to tighten the guard fastener and even then I suspect this is not essential.
The main unit of the fan is made of a very sturdy white plastic, easy to grip and at the moment (whilst it’s still new, it looks clean and classy). What’s more it does look like the kind of casing that will be able to keep clean with the aid of a soft damp cloth. An added useful feature on this particular model is a plastic handstrap for moving the entire fan unit from one location to another.
Overall, it probably took me less than 15 minutes to assemble the desk fan and have it in use. This model has three speed settings and the fan can oscillate or remain still. On the first speed setting, noise is almost non-existent and only gradually increases on settings two and three, and this has more to do with the speed at which the air is moving, as opposed to being noise generated by the motor in the fan unit itself.
The “Instruction Manual” is short and to the point with a comprehensive list of “Do Not” instructions like “Do not insert fingers or other objects into the fan guard”!
The product specification is
Power: 41W Voltage 230V ~ 50V Net Weight: 2.48kg Dimensions 47 x 20 x 19 cm
Cable length 2m.
***Conclusion***
I know there are some people who will tell me that all it does is circulate warm air. Probably true. However, any air circulating is better than no air at all and that is the choice that I had! This size is ideal for my sauna like living room conditions! So now I’m a really cool, calm, customer and a satisfied one to boot.
