When I had done all the main shopping for my forthcoming baby, I was left thinking 'what else can I buy that I might possibly need'? This is when I came upon the idea of a baby sling. I considered other more traditional style baby carriers, but thought that a sling might be easier since I was planning to breastfeed. Also the sling is purported to 'hold baby in a more natural position', & provide comfort since they are more cocooned & in a foetal position. This was a big plus point to me since it's not good for baby's spine to be sat in a more upright position.
I did my research & really liked the sound of the Premaxx baby sling. Probably mainly because I'm a sucker for European design & the Premaxx sling does look really funky! I chose the 'Sporty' version - I think perhaps it's now discontinued - the only place I could find it was on Amazon through a private seller. It's a really bright turquoise, with 3 zip pockets dotted along the strap, which I thought would be really useful for storage (small items such as keys, phone).
When baby arrived, I tested it out around the house. Even with just an 8lb baby in it, the strap dug in my shoulder. I found it best to wear something thick underneath, such as a dressing gown or jumper. Perhaps my husband would have found it easier, but he's never actually tried it. My son did seem quite happy & content in the sling - he was soon fast asleep, which is a blessing in those early weeks!
When baby gets to the sitting stage, the sling can be turned around with baby sat up in it, balanced on your hip. (You'll have to find some pics for this - I can't describe it very well!). We're not at that stage yet, so I can't comment on how well it works in this way.
Overall, the sling looks fab and is lovely & soft & comfy. It was very useful in the very early weeks as I could carry baby round the house while I did a bit of tidying up etc. I never have used it outside of the house, so never have tested it in respect to breastfeeding with it, but I can imagine it would make feeding much more discreet.
