Advantages: Not a bad kit in its own right Disadvantages: The competition is now far better
...Going back 5 or 6 years, Premier was one of the big 4 as far as drum kits went. Over the last 5 fives, whilst every other drum manufacturer had made amazing advances, premier seems to have almost remained where they have been for years. Unfortunately, the quality of premier drum kits has fallen well behind the competition.
When the XPK was launched it was fundamentally a pretty good kit. It still is. The only problem being that the equivalent kits from Pearl, Yamaha and Tama are far better.
The XPK is still a reasonable kit – but give it a miss and go for the competition, in particular the Pearl export....

Advantages: Great looking kit great sound Disadvantages: standard hardware needs improving
...for spares and i bought double braced series 3000 hardware which i hope to review too.
Now lets talk about sound and quality. OK this kit looks great in my opinion but looks aint everything.
I use a 6 piece kit, 10" 12" 13" and a 16" floor tom. A 22" bass drum plus my genista snare x2(i have one for spare)
I'll start with the toms, i'll have to mention that i dont use premier skins i use remo weatherkings pinstrips i prefer the sound, anyway, once tuned these toms have a great sound, i find i have to use some dampening on all of them especially the floor tom but once it's all sorted the kit sounds as rockin as hell, each tom complements each other, there's no heavy over tones just a good thumpin rock sound, the quality maynot be of the Signia or other top professional kits but hey your not paying top quality professional prices...

Advantages: Great looks Disadvantages: some basic hardware
...For the semi-pro or the amateur who wants a bit more than the old APK offered, the XPK is a great kit, with near professl level sound, great lacqured finished and a proce that isn't too far f reach for many drummers. The available sets and sizes is more than sufficiant to satisfy any drummer, and the drums themselves are certainly up to scratch. The drums are fitted with Premiers own head which are good, although not own choiceyou certainly won't need to change them straight awau as with many budget kits. The hardware from Premier has definately improved recently as many of the stands were a bit flimsy and basic compared to Pearl's mightly hardware, but at the moment there is't much that can be said against the XPK....
