I was given a 12 month subscription to this magazine as a christmas present from my husband. I must admit when I saw the subscription was for Prima I was a little disappointed as my general opinion of this magazine without ever really reading one before was that this was meant for older ladies, not a 25 year old!

However, my husband had also got me a subscription to Company, which is one of my favourites magazines so I thought,I'll read the first issue and if it's no good I will pass them on to my mum, it should be just up her street! (Bless him, hubby thought he knew which magazines I read, at least he got one right!)

When the first issue arrived I was surprised to see how modern it looked from the front cover! Maybe my first opinion had been wrong? As I leafed through the magazine I found that it had articles ranging from health, family, finance, food, to competitions and fashion, very diverse indeed!

Yes, some of the articles were of no interest to me, but some of them were quite young and funky, especially some of the home design articles showing where you could buy items from shops such as Habitat and The Pier or the cheaper but very similar items from Tesco and Asda. I even got a few ideas for redesigning my bathroom.

Each month there is a free pattern included for you to make a dress/bag/jacket etc, which although not for me, as my experience of trying to sew is generally a mess of thread and a sleeve sewn together so it is no longer function, are quite trendy items! In fact one of them I am going to get someone who can sew to make for me!

The cookery pages are well set out with lovely pictures of the finished products and the instructions are easy to understand and follow.

The fashion pages are laid out well and used items from stockists such as Bhs, Matalan and Evans, so high street chains that are accessable to most people.

They also have a creative section each month with topical things to make such as mothers day cards, easter bonnets etc. These often have outlines of picture to photocopy (including information of how much to enlarge them by) so you can make the exact item.

Each month there are free prizes given away, such as beauty products or trips to day spas. There are 3 ways to enter these; call a premium rate number, send a text at £1.50 per go, or send off a postcard to the stated address.

The magazine is published monthly at £2.50 per issue. As I mentioned already my husband got me a 12 month delivered subscription for £24 as part of a special offer, the only down side to this is that any free gifts are not included (other than the pattern), so you may see the same magazine in the newsagents but with a free book/bag etc. But this is only limited to people who receive the magazine by post!

Overall I would rate this magazine as good value for money. I would not re-subscribe to this as I am not a very homey type person but I would not be really upset if my hubby got it as a gift again! And I can assure you that I do read them before passing on to my mother, just not every article as I would with other magazines!

Also I could not rate this as an old ladies magazine,if you are a very house-proud type of any age then I would recommend this as a good read!

I don't tend to read many magazines to be honest, though I am making more time for my books so mayb mags will follow

I haven't bought this for ages, last copy I read was while I was sitting in the waiting room at the dentists, may have to invest in the next issue.

Useful review, not really a magazine I'd buy myself though.
