Primark is a discount-clothing store in the same vein as New Look, Peacocks, Matalan etc. The store we normally visit is located in the Kings Mall shopping centre in Hammersmith, London W6.
A wide range of goods are available eg menswear, womenswear, childrenswear, women’s jewellery, handbags, bedroom and bathroom accessories, fashion jewellery, shoes, soft toys.
Prices are rock bottom eg £2 for a pair of men’s socks, £3 for a woman’s nightie, £3 for a woman’s handbag.
The returns' procedure is quite straightforward with little hassle. There are plenty of cash tills so that the customers are served quite promptly. The store is quite spacious occupying the area from the old Co-op Living department store.
The returns’ department actually sports a sign that receipts are required. But a few weeks ago we returned some bed sheets despite having lost the receipt. But once the bar code was scanned it confirmed that we had purchased the bed sheets on a previous day. Legally you do not have to have a receipt to get a refund in any shop.
The HQ for Primark is located in Reading. The parent company is American. With prices this low in Primark no wonder stores such as Marks & Spencer are in deep trouble.
The one thing that I do not like about Primark is the lack of music in the store. I asked a store assistant about the lack of music and she agreed with me. Apparently the bosses think that if music was introduced then this would take the minds of workers off their work.
A Littlewoods store recently opened opposite Primark. It simply cannot compete with Primark. There are posters on the shop windows detailing 90% discounts. But the Littlewoods store is virtually empty every time I pass by.
Discount-clothing stores are here to stay.
