As a twenty-something, many people my age are highly conscious of where they shop and what people will think about what they are wearing. However, for some reason with Primakr this is not the case. Primark is now seen as so cheap that it's cool. Apparently this is also the case with the dinner-party attending generations - whose subject of conversation is now less how expensive their cars are, but more how cheaply they bought their dress for in Primark!

For someone who has never shopped in Primark, a general overview is that it is a clothes store that caters for men, women and children. The clothes sizes avaliable are similar to any other highstreet store and the variety of outfits ranges from casual right through to formal. Equally, this is a shop that caters for a wide age range in their adult clothing sections. There is generally something for everyone from 15 upwards. Primark makes an effort to stay in line with current fashion trends, whilst simultaneously selling a core stock of basic practical items.

Primark also deals in basic housing goods such as bed linen, towels and similar. This is in addition to their wide shoe and accessory range. Recently the store has even started selling bargain priced reading glasses and even makeup!

The average price of a plain t-shirt for a man or woman in Primark is about £4, but on numerous occassions I have found sale rails selling these items for £1! Most stock items, such as skirts, jeans and trousers usually range between £6 - £10. in my experience I have also found that ladies evening tops with detail tend to be around the £8 mark. Smaller items, such as strappy tops, are even on sale for as cheap as £2.50.

One range of particular interest for mums or parents-to-be is their basic baby ranges. Buying babygrows in a designated shop for babies can soon prove expensive, especially due to the quanitiy needed when the baby is so young and changing is required more than once a day. In Primark I have seen multipacks of babygrows on sale for £4 which is a complete bargain for those trying to stretch the money to cover everything the baby needs.

There are always two issues that people are interested in when it comes to cheap stores and these include trading ethics and the quality of the goods. In relation to the first issue, there have been recent news stories reporting the amount Primark stores pay their suppliers and it seems that they are no better or worse than other shops on the highstreet. This may not be complete peace of mind, but it does mean that it isn't any worse to shop in Primark. The second issue, regarding quality, is variable. I have bought clothes in Primark before that have lasted for years with no excessive wear evident or defect in quality. However, I have also found while trying clothes on instore that certain garments which claim to be the same size are actually significantly different in their cut and line. Also, as with all cheap clothes, Primark clothes tend to run in the wash. It is always worth testing these clothes, especially bright colours before putting them in with the rest of the clothes wash.

The reason for Primark's cheapness seems to be down to the bulk in which they sell their produce. If you are looking for a top or dress that noone else is going to wear to the same party then this isn't the shop for you, but if you don't mind having a very similar wardrobe to your mate then its no problem - just a bit of forward planning is needed!

Primark stores are now popping up all over the country, so shopping there seems to be pretty convenient. I often find that it is worth teaming up primark garments with clothes of a higher quality and they wear really well. In fact, more often than not, I am complimented on my Primark garments rather than my more expensive purchases!

On the whole you get what you pay for with Primark, but the bonus is that these clothes are fashionable, wearable and comfortable. (I would strongly advice the women reading this to check out Primark pants if they haven't already - as these are particularly comfortable). Be warned the stores will be messy and busy - especially at the weekend - but if you can bear the crowds then you might bag a bargain.

Very good review. As much as I hate to admit it (perhaps a bit snob) I do buy clothes in Primark regularly and you are spot on with the mix and match with more expensive clothes. Also dead on about the baby clothes issue. I get so annoyed with stores selling clothes for babies at 25 pound and up!!! I do find that shopping there in the week is much easier and it is sometimes very quiet and enjoyable!
