Advantages: Cheap, fast, big storage amount Disadvantages: Unreliable so regularly back up your files
...I was looking online for a new harddrive, to replace my old Maxtor one, when i found some very cheap Seagate Barracuda ATA IV 80GBdrives for sale, and bought 2, for under £20. They were bth fully working, and i fitted them straight away, as altogether it was a storage capacity of 8 times more than my Maxtor harddrive, and the spindle speed was higher as well. I installed Windows XP without any problems at all, onto one of the drives, and used the other as a secondary drive to put my work files on. For a couple of months, i was happy, as I had spotted a bargain and the harddrives were fully workin, until the secondary drive just vanished, and wouldn't boot at all, no power would go to it and I ahd lost all my work files. So i carried on with the one 80GBdrive, and installed my 20GB again for extra storage space. And then about...

Advantages: Quick transfer speed, Disadvantages: Fairly Bulky
...What can i say this is an internal had-drive which obviously integrates within a computer system. Nowadays 80GB is not enough for anyone as programs are now increasing in size due to their complexity and what they have to offer.
A harddrive is a non-volatile storage device which stores digitally encoded data on rapidly rotating platters with magnetic surfaces. Non-volatile storage is simply the name given to a storage device which can retain stored data even when not powered. With a volatile storage device being one that can not retain saved data e.g. RAM (Random Access Memory).
I used to have an 80GBharddrive in the past on my "OLD" PC, which was about 5 years ago. Now i have a 300 GBharddrive which i have to admit is filling up really quickly. Due to the number of files stored e.g music, photo, video etc.
This particular hard...

Advantages: Very fast, reliable and quiet... and Cheap! Disadvantages: Absolutely nothing!
...Maxtor have been there since the beginning of the home PC - They were making 100MB hard disks 12 years ago that are just as good as their 400GB+ disks today.
I have always liked the combination of price and reliability Maxtor drives have offered. You can pick up a Maxtor disk for £10-£15 cheaper on average than you can other manufacturers. My first Maxtor disk was a monstrously big 10GB disk back in 1999, and since then I have truly been hooked.
Never once has a Maxtor disk failed on me, or had any indication of doing so. SMART status on all of my drives has always been 100%, and that 10GB disk is still happily sat in a USB enclosure on top of my PC.
Anyway, with the 80GB Maxtor DiamondMax 9 I have been using as my Primary disk for over 3 years getting a bit on the full side, I decided it was time for an upgrade. I wanted a disk...
