...IMPORTANT- If you are in search of a scanner please read this, so you know what not to get.
This is the first scanner I have bought and has probably put me off them for ever. It is the PrimaxColorado Direct 9600. I got it bundled with my Computer, that I realise was my biggest mistake. Anything that seems like a bargain and is bundled with some goodies is probably going to be a con.
My first problem was that if I try to scan above its minimum resolution level it freezes and along with that the software also stops responding, making my PC crash.
My second problem was that it sometimes doesn't even scan. I believe that this could be resolved by switching the hardware off then back on. But the only problem is it doesn't have an on/off switch. I have been to their website to update my software and guess what their drivers...

...You may have seen the recent offer in PC World, selling the PrimaxColorado 9600 USB scanner for a mere £30. Some of you may have purchased one, like I did.

Problems started as soon as I'd started to install the thing, as there are in fact TWO sets of TWAIN drivers. Then the scanner software kept hanging up when I tried to scan anything. After numerous reads of the manual (which was poorly written), several reinstalls, and an attempt to use CorelScan for the scanning duties, I resorted to Primax's website for help.
There I was told that the scanner was incompatible with a fast AMD K6-2 or K6-3 CPU (which I have) and duely offered a patch. This was run, and still no joy. Further searching on the web pointed me to the fact...

Advantages: Excellent price, great software, good quality scans, OCR and photocopying facilities. Disadvantages: None.
...I have had this scanner for almost 3 years and even now I rate it as a fantastic purchase. When I bought it, scanners were still expensive pieces of equipment, but the PrimaxColorado Direct was good value even then. It was extremely easy to install and the TaskBridge software it comes with makes scanning photos, scanning text via OCR and making photocopies very easy. The quality of scans is generally good; photos tend to scan slightly dark but brightness adjustments within picture software tend to fix this. As well as the useful TaskBridge software (which starts up when you press the start button on the scanner), the PrimaxColorado Direct comes with MGI PhotoSuite SE; high-quality image editing software that is a great way for novices to get the hang of photo manipulation. Nearly 3 years on, my scanner is working perfectly and has...
