For Christmas my children bought me a Princess Silver Cotton Candy (a candy floss maker). I'm sure however this was more for their benefit than mine.
Before you can start to use the Candy floss maker you have to assemble it, this is relatively easy and comes with full instructions. You have to place the bowl on top of the base which has suction cups as feet so as to keep the unit steady when working, then insert the rotating disc onto the axle and hey presto your ready to make candy floss
Once plugged into the wall you have to allow the machine to warm up for 5 minutes, once done you need to switch off the machine again whilst you add the sugar, normal granulated sugar can be used but you can also use coloured sugars if you want to vary the colour of candy floss you get. Fill the measuring spoon with your sugar and then tip it into the hole in the middle of the rotating disc, switch the machine back on and the disc will start to rotate as it warms up the sugar, after a few moments you will start to see a web forming around the bowl this is when you get busy with the sticks, it can be quiet tricky at first as you have to twirl the sticks around the bowl collecting the candy floss. Once you have got the hang of it however it is pretty simple and soon you have a stick full of lovely white candy floss.
CLEANING:
This is very simple, switch off the machine and allow to cool down, once cool simple remove the rotating disc and bowl and wash in warm soppy water, the base can simply be wiped over if needed.
COST:
Varies from place to place, mine was bought from Debenhams at £39.99
CONCLUSION:
With just one spoon of sugar you can make a stick of candyfloss, you are left with the sweet aroma of candy floss in the air, like being a kid again walking round and old fair ground. I intend to use it when I have kids parties, but maybe try it with coloured sugar and make bags of candy floss rather than just the sticks. It tastes like the real deal, which infact it is, very sweet and melts instantly in your mouth. The machine packs away in its box very easily but is quiet bulky so having somewhere to store it could be a problem in a small kitchen
Advantages: It tastes exactly like the candy floss from the fair! Disadvantages: Some sugar sticks to the bowl
I was given this for christmas bacause of my well known love of candy floss. I'd wanted one for a while and was not disappointed . One tablespoon of normal granulated sugar makes a pretty impressive wad of candy floss. The unit is quite large but the box has easily slotted into some unused nook. It fits together easily and only takes a few minutes to heat up. Its not too loud either so doesn't become an annoyance. The maker comes with a set of sticks ... ...candy floss with tips from the handy instruction manual. It would be a really exciting gift for any child or adult alike. It comes apart for cleaning, but make sure it has cooled properly as the middle where the candy floss is produced is metal. There is a build up of sugar that accumulates around the bowl which quickly becomes hard but a few minutes in the sink soon gets rid of it. You wont have to spend ages cleaning it which is always a bonus. ...
