What a performance by Brother
Review of Brother HL 2030 by natty250

Advantages: Affordable, good quality,
Disadvantages: USB connection only

...printers I plumped for the Brother HL-2030. It also has its bigger 'brothers' (sorry pun unintended at time of writing) the HL-2040 and HL-2070, but I didn't think the 2040 offered much more for the money, and whilst I would have ideally liked a network printer it was out of my budget. So - to the main point of this review - what is it like??? *** Appearance *** It comes packaged well, in a sturdy box, with the instructions, and driver CDs easily ...
...in a plain (grey) get-on-with-the-job way. It is very small, official dimensions list it as being W 371mm, D 361mm, H 166mm. And it has an integrated paper tray holding 250 sheets. All this make it a compact, and lightweight device able to take its place on the desktop without being an eye-sore, or tucked on a shelf/under a desk. *** Installation *** The printer comes with two sets of driver CDs. One for Windows Vista, and one for Windows XP and ... Read review

A printer good for home use
Review of Canon PIXMA IP2500 by Sweetpea1075

Advantages: Inexpensive, Nice design, modern looking, OK for everyday use
Disadvantages: Noisy, takes ages to start up, goes through ink quickly

...had broken. I have a Canon camera and know that Canon is a good well know brand. It also looks nice and modern and has a nice shiny black finish. For the jobs that I want it to do at the moment, it performs well, although I am hoping to print out some large photo prints in the near future, so will be upgrading. For standard photos and written documents, it does the job nicely, although some of the colours on the photos did not come out the same ...
...the printer itself, as my PC may not be set up correctly. The disadvantage is the amount of ink it uses. I have never used so much over the last few months, especially if you are printing out photos - it is not a cheap option. Much cheaper to get them done at processing lab or online. The ink is not cheap for this printer either, compared with other similar printers. Although I have found that even when it says it is empty, there is still actually ... Read review

A good printer with added "bits"
Review of Epson Stylus Photo R300 by Carrotts73

Advantages: good print quality, cheap copy cartridges, stand alone if needed
Disadvantages: none really

The Epson R300 is a good low cost Photo Printer. It has lots of useful features, for instance you can print direct from a camera, or pop a memory card into the reader on the front. If you're connected to a PC then it can use the memory card reader as well. It is also possible to attach a Bluetooth module and print direct from a camera phone, but I've not tried this. You can buy a colour LCD for it so that you can preview pictures before you print ...
...and it can knock 6x4 prints out in a minute or so. It also has the capability of printing direct onto white coated CD/DVDs if you want to make your Disks look smart! I get my ink from eBay, and this does not seem to massively affect the quality of printouts but is much cheaper. The set up is very straightforward. The printer has a little LCD screen that gives out status messages and other information, so it is worth remembering this before you ... Read review

HP 7260
Review of HP PhotoSmart 7260 by makro74

Advantages: Excellent quick printing, photos just add icing on the cake
Disadvantages: Paper jams for drafts

...relatively quick speed (depending on settings). But beware of using draft prints as this for some reason causes the printer to jam or crumple through the process. Ink catridges suprisingly outlast any other inkjet I have owned. HP 56, 57, 58 are used in this machine. ... Read review

Great budget printer.
Review of Canon PIXMA IP1800 by pdmg

Advantages: Excellent text
Disadvantages: No letter tray!

...on my previous experience of Canon printers - I opted for a Pixima with FINE technology. I already have a very good photo printer in the shape of the Epson R800, and an Epson 830U which I use for rough drafts as it is on it's last legs. Fact is, I needed a printer to print decent quality letters and the odd mixed text and image sheet. I previously used an old Canon S520 but it finally gave up the ghost, and I have to say the i1800 - at about a quarter ...
...capable machine. It prints in various modes (high, standard, draft and custom) and in high quality mode, the text is as good as any printer I've seen. It's not fast though, so if you print a lot of text you may want to look at a laser. Printing tecxt over colour (a sample web page) was not so hot, but I don't really care! Photo printing is acceptable, though I didn't buy it for that purpose and only printed one quick pic to get an idea. I imagine ... Read review
