The Germans are Printing
Review of Apollo P 1200 by Champ666

Advantages: Cheap, Not Bad quality
Disadvantages: Only one space for a chartrage

I bought this printer for 40 quid to use as a cheap back up printer, and so that I could save money on ink from my main printer. A word of advice to those setting up home networks do not let anyone else use your good printer, buy a cheap one and let them use that. The drivers came in on the CD and there was no problem installing them though for some bizzare reason it has set up on the computers in German. My housemates think that this is a cunning ...
...I am not that devious, and if I was going to do something like that I'd have set it up in Slovenian. Setting up the drivers though was easy as it is with all printers these days, and maping other machines on the home network to the printer is no problem either. The printer uses Hewlett Packard (HP51649a) colour cartrages and the equivelent Black and white chartrages. If you shop arround you can get these for 15 quid or less. It only has one slot ... :: Apollo P-2100U Printer ::
Review of Apollo P P-2100U by josh1111

Advantages: Reliable
Disadvantages: Quite old

...ace as the good old Apollo has never failed me because it's very reliable. Iv'e never had a fault in it and had to get it fixed or something, it's always worked for me : ), I'm so lucky to have this printer.. (sarcastic). It is pretty reliable though and that's probably the best point about it. It is very easy to use because all you do is click print and out comes what's on the screen! Voila! You've got what you asked to be printed ( I thought that ...
...printer, it's easy to use and there are 2 buttons on it showing to turn it off or stop printing the paper in the printer and print it out without finishing. The design is very interesting, it has a weird colour, like an aqua-ee colour for the bit which holds the paper in. If there's a problem then as the design is good you can lift up the top and take a look inside to see what seems to be the problem. I'm not sure if that's what you're meant to ... Read review

Possibly the Printer Bargain of the Century
Review of APOLLO P-2100U by james68

Advantages: CHEAP! Good colour and monochrome printing quality. Fairly quick.
Disadvantages: Barely satisfactory colour photos (but what do you expect for £30!)

...optional colour photo cartridge. The Apollo is capable of 600 x 600 dpi at best (monochrome) and 600 x 300 dpi (colour). The cartridges are reasonably priced, and can be easily refilled I'm told (no nasty chip to reprogram either). Incidentally, for support and drivers (Windows 98, ME, 2000) go to: http://www.ap-sure.com/myapollo/support/P2100U/supp2100.htm You do not need to download additional XP drivers since they are already built-in to ... A good basic laser printer
Review of Brother HL 1030 by dracoiratus

Advantages: Within the budget of a private user
Disadvantages: Manual feed is unreliable

I bought this printer about three years ago because I wanted a machine that would produce good quality black and white prints, and that is indeed what it does, so no complaints on that front. I had problems a few months ago when black splodges and smears started appearing on prints. The troubleshooting information I found suggested that the drum needed cleaning, however after following the cleaning instructions I only got a couple of clear prints ...
...the toner cartridge leaking and once I replaced it, the problem was solved. I don't know it the cartridge started leaking because it was old, but I hadn't used it up, so I didn't get the full life out of it and they aren't so cheap that I want to have to replace them before they're finished. The other major problem I've noticed recently is with the manual feed slot. It has a pair of sliding tabs to control where you insert the paper, depending on ... Read review

Brother HL 1230 Excels
Review of Brother HL 1230 by UKRushbrook

Advantages: Clear copy, smooth action, very quiet
Disadvantages: paper tray extends out the back making for a larger footprint

Overall Satisfaction I purchased my Brother HL-1230 brand new and have never regretted it. While I have used other laser printers in the office, this one is great for both home and office use. Would give high recommendations for anyone running an office from their home or small business. Speed and Print Quality This is not really a machine designed for high volume office use as the speed is not overly fast. At high quality (600x600dpi), the machine ...
...a small degree of flexibility in the details of photo printing and the quality desired ranging from draft to picture options. It comes with 2MB of onboard ram with those wanting a little more out of the machine able to get it in the next upgrade found on the HL-1240 which puts out 14ppm and has 4MB of ram. Tech Support & Consummable Info I have found that technical support has been satisfactory when needed which has actually only been one time. ... Read review
