What a performance by Brother
Review of Brother HL 2030 by natty250

Advantages: Affordable, good quality,
Disadvantages: USB connection only

...printers I plumped for the Brother HL-2030. It also has its bigger 'brothers' (sorry pun unintended at time of writing) the HL-2040 and HL-2070, but I didn't think the 2040 offered much more for the money, and whilst I would have ideally liked a network printer it was out of my budget. So - to the main point of this review - what is it like??? *** Appearance *** It comes packaged well, in a sturdy box, with the instructions, and driver CDs easily ...
...in a plain (grey) get-on-with-the-job way. It is very small, official dimensions list it as being W 371mm, D 361mm, H 166mm. And it has an integrated paper tray holding 250 sheets. All this make it a compact, and lightweight device able to take its place on the desktop without being an eye-sore, or tucked on a shelf/under a desk. *** Installation *** The printer comes with two sets of driver CDs. One for Windows Vista, and one for Windows XP and ... Read review

I'm glad this Brother isn't related to me!
Review of Brother HL 1450 by anonymili

Advantages: Can't actually think of any right now
Disadvantages: Constant paper jams and print spool errors are really irritating

~*~ INTRODUCING MY BROTHER ~*~ I have used this printer both at home and at work - when I used it at work, I was between offices, so didn't get the full brunt of just how useless this printer can be at times - had I known I wouldn't have bothered to get one for home use as it's almost worse than having no laser printer at all. The latest (and cheapest) price I could find online for one of these was £237 which is way too expensive as far as I'm concerned ...
...able to pinpoint why the Brother jams so often, but apparently I'm not the only one who finds this, I've spoken to various ex-colleagues who used this printer regularly and they had nothing nice to say about it either. Cheap and cheerful? Well cheap it might be but cheerful it certainly aint! I can be using the printer to print off documents in Word or Excel then suddenly out of nowhere I get a print spooler error, I never had this problem with any ... Read review

A good basic laser printer
Review of Brother HL 1030 by dracoiratus

Advantages: Within the budget of a private user
Disadvantages: Manual feed is unreliable

I bought this printer about three years ago because I wanted a machine that would produce good quality black and white prints, and that is indeed what it does, so no complaints on that front. I had problems a few months ago when black splodges and smears started appearing on prints. The troubleshooting information I found suggested that the drum needed cleaning, however after following the cleaning instructions I only got a couple of clear prints ...
...the toner cartridge leaking and once I replaced it, the problem was solved. I don't know it the cartridge started leaking because it was old, but I hadn't used it up, so I didn't get the full life out of it and they aren't so cheap that I want to have to replace them before they're finished. The other major problem I've noticed recently is with the manual feed slot. It has a pair of sliding tabs to control where you insert the paper, depending on ... Read review

Brother HL 1430
Review of Brother HL 1430 by nanger

Advantages: Value for money
Disadvantages: Bulky compared to newer laser printers

...to newer laser printers the Brother HL 1430 looks boring and is also quite bulky. However what it lacks in looks it certainly makes up for in quality and reliability. Dimensions: 36x23.5cm Weight: 9.2Kg --Laser Vs Inkjet-- I had two inkjet printers before purchasing my first laser printer. For the sort of documents I print I find a laser printer much faster, more reliable and also of a higher quality. Over the last 2 years this printer has proven ...
...ink cartridges dried out and were expensive to replace. Since I have had this printer I have still not replaced the toner it came with. --Quality-- The print resolution for this printer is 600 dpi x 600 dpi. This is good enough quality for everything I print including graphs, charts, word documents and black and white images without a great amount of detail. --Ease of use-- The printer comes with a instalation CD with the drivers and other software ... ONE OF THE BEST FOR ALL ROUND USE
Review of Brother HL 1250 by mrtimbg27

Advantages: fast printing, consistent quality
Disadvantages: cost of toner

...printers! We found that the brother 1250 range was a great all round printer- we printed loads of balck and white reports and documents all day long, and these machines would just kepp going and going. No reliability problems, no constant jams, and no wasting of ink- they would keep going on and aon until the cartridge was totally out of ink. The only downside- the cost of the cartridges- no problem- go to a refill place! beware though that the drums ... Read review
