Buying Guide »

Need a new printer? Facing the immense product range available in shops both on- and offline, you’ll be spoilt for choice. From simple inkjet printers for less than £30 to multifunctional colour laser printers for more than £1,000, there’s a printer ideally suited for whatever your heart desires.

But remember to keep an eye on consequential costs when making your choice, as they can get quite high – especially with cheaper devices.

So, which printer is best for you?

What do you need your printer for?
Generally, you should follow some basic rules:
  • If the printer’s primary use will be for professional purposes or if you’re searching for a suitable device for your office, a laser printer will be the best choice.
  • If your printer will primarily be used at home or in a small office and if you’re planning to use it to print photos, you should look into inkjet printers, which are traditionally said to be better for photo printing.
  • If your digital camera has become your constant companion, the purchase of a specials photo printer might be a wise move.
  • If you use your printer not only for printing but also for scanning documents, a multifunctional device will certainly pay off.

Every device carries certain pros and cons which you need to consider in line with your individual requirements. There are some criteria, however, which you should take into account no matter what specific needs you have – these criteria include storage capacity, plug-ins and additional costs.

Canon PIXMA Ip3600 (Printer)

Advantages: Easy to use, affordable and fast
Disadvantages: No disadvantages were noticed

I use the printer at work for various projects and it is superb. The color quality is excellent. It prints pictures and photos better than any printer I have used. The printing speed is fast and high quality. The printer is easy to use and easy to order supplies for. It is very reliable, I hardly have any paper jams with it and when I do it is very easily fixed. In the past I have used printers where when the toner runs out it is difficult to replace ...

Epson R2880... Superb printer and well worth the premium price

Advantages: Well built, superb quality prints
Disadvantages: You have to switch black inks for glossy and matte finishes

I ordered myself an Epson R2880 from Amazon, they had almost the best price £499.99 delivered. At the time, they also had Epson 3 year extended warranty packs for £35, so I grabbed one of these too. The printer was delivered free in three days. Upon receipt and opening the massive box, it was instantly apparent that the R2880 is built really well. It has some real weight to it, and the panels all line up superbly. The opening top lid opens smoothly ...
...the latest version from the Epson website, so you are right up-to-date. You can also install extra software too, like a photo manager, easy print application and CD print application. I just went for the printer driver (Mac version for me) and it installed very quickly. I was able to do my first test print within about ten minutes of unpacking the printer. It showed no clogged nozzles or problems. Onto a photo and I printed a duotone onto fine art ...

I Wanna Portrait

Advantages: It is a cheap printer with good prints
Disadvantages: The price of cartridges and how the ink fails to dry quickly

Canon Pixma ip2600 is a photo printer which is excellent value for money, but does have a small flaws. Setup Inside the box you get the printer and the power cable. You get also the inside the manual to how to use the printer and a disc which installs drivers onto the computer. Inside the printer already is the two cartridges you need, which just need the tape ripped off to make them work. The cable is easy to put in and not that difficult ...
...the middle you have the Canon logo which is dominate in the printer topping and you have underneath a rotten grey colour. The colour is quite bad considering the rest of the printer looks really nice. At the back of the printer you have where the mains adapter goes which is quite tough to get in and out. I like something which is easy to plug in and out and then to put away again but this is quite difficult. You have on the left hand side a connection ...

Canon or a Brother ?

Advantages: Good print Quality
Disadvantages: Cartridge prices

This review is for the Canon Pixma IP4700. Setup --------- This printer comes inside a box which is heavily packaged and first off all you get the power cable. The cable is wrapped with this tie back but the problem is that when you unwind the cable you notice how it wants to try and curl back up again so you do need to try and straighten it out as soon as you can. You receive the disc which has the drivers on which you need to install on the ...
...front also is the big Canon logo name which kind of finishes off the printer design. Specifications -------------------- This printer is 43cm in width, 30cm in depth and 15.3cm in height. The good point to the printer is the size of the depth and width. With this being the size it is means you can easily find a place to store the printer and this is what you want from a printer, not something which is too big to store anywhere. This printer is ...

...this print intently like the Polaroid did. Before going into the main review just a about instant printing let take a brief look at the technology. The technology of PoGo for instance doesn’t differ much to that used in the original Polaroid instant cameras only that the printer is a separate entity plus no shaking is required to the output for the image to appear. It doest the job of printing using Zink, an inkless technology: WHAT IS ZINK: Edwin ...
