Buying Guide »

Need a new printer? Facing the immense product range available in shops both on- and offline, you’ll be spoilt for choice. From simple inkjet printers for less than £30 to multifunctional colour laser printers for more than £1,000, there’s a printer ideally suited for whatever your heart desires.

But remember to keep an eye on consequential costs when making your choice, as they can get quite high – especially with cheaper devices.

So, which printer is best for you?

What do you need your printer for?
Generally, you should follow some basic rules:
  • If the printer’s primary use will be for professional purposes or if you’re searching for a suitable device for your office, a laser printer will be the best choice.
  • If your printer will primarily be used at home or in a small office and if you’re planning to use it to print photos, you should look into inkjet printers, which are traditionally said to be better for photo printing.
  • If your digital camera has become your constant companion, the purchase of a specials photo printer might be a wise move.
  • If you use your printer not only for printing but also for scanning documents, a multifunctional device will certainly pay off.

Every device carries certain pros and cons which you need to consider in line with your individual requirements. There are some criteria, however, which you should take into account no matter what specific needs you have – these criteria include storage capacity, plug-ins and additional costs.

Yet another photograph printer

Advantages: Read Below
Disadvantages: Read Below

Well this printer came into my households life shortly before christmas 2006. We found it ideal around the christmas period as we had family round so we could easily take pictures and print them off. However there are some downfalls as they always are with these sort of printers. The colour cartridge has to be refilled every 40-60 prints which is dissapointing although to be expected i suppose. The photographs taken must be downloaded onto a computer ...
...on your computer before pictures can be printed off. The photographic paper is kept in a small pocket but when it is being printed on it goes out the back, through the front, to the back again whilst various colours are applied. Due to this the printer must be kept in a dust free environment and have sufficient space at both the front and back for the paper. Ok so i can't just critisize this product. It does have its good points. The quality of ...

Why the Canon Selphy is worth buying.......

Advantages: Good quality photos.
Disadvantages: It's a bit slow.

All I can say is the best photo printer ever. It is so small you can take it anywhere you go so if you are on holiday you can take a photo and print it there. Also what I like about this printer is the way the photopaper is special. The photopaper is 6x4 and on the back is a bit for a stamp and some lines (IT'S A POSTCARD).How cool you get to make your won postcards out of your photos. You can connect it straight to your camera and is easy to set ...
...use your printer. The printer goes quite slow to get the photos to the best quality it can. It prints out the photos by layering the colour on top of each other (yellow, red and lastly blue and then glossy finish). The printer looks modern and is well worth th money. ...

canon selphy CP740 photo printer

Advantages: Small, great featires and quality.
Disadvantages: Only get a tester ink cartridge with it.

...got this printer with my Canon digital camera for christmas, I don't have a printer at home, and was always taking my memory card to the supermarket to print off my pictures for around 30p each. But, now its very easy to print off the odd photo at home for whatever purpose I need. The ink cartridges are reasonably priced, around £10 for 40 pictures with the paper included if you go to the Canon website, and you get a taster cartridge to print 5 pictures ...
...The picture quality is great and its very easy to use and sooo simple to set up initially which I wasn't expecting! The ink cartridge is so easy to insert and you simply pop your memory card in (a variety are accepted!!) and the pictures are shown on a full colour screen on the top of the printer, you can then choose to print or rotate etc the picture. Been able to see the picture your printing is a huge benefit and the fact you can just pop in your ...

no more messy ink cardridges

Advantages: seems to be a cheap method and easy to set up
Disadvantages: might be a problem with cartridge

Just got the sagem 155 photo printer and so far I am very impressed. The quality is the same as a normal photo from a shop and it takes less than a minute. I have found a slight problem with the cartridge not being seen but will update you later. wish I had bought one of these earlier.this will solve the problem I have been having with ink jet printers ie paper and ink quality not good. at the moment these printers are available on and off at the ...

iP2600 is a OK printer

Advantages: Excellent picture quality
Disadvantages: Cost per print is too high

...find on the net, www.cartridgecapital.com Canon has always been a reliable make for me, and this was no exception, it has lasted me quite some time now too. It is a small printer so it is good if you are short of space. Manufacturer support is not too bad either. Have always been quite helpful. Overall, if you are looking to print photographs, then this would be an excellent printer for you. If you are buying one for day to day printing, or black ...
