I received 2 years worth of insurance with Privilege when I purchased my new Nissan in the Summer of 1999. And mightily impressed with them I have been.
Obviously I have no premium to pay but when I asked them for a quote ready for when my free insurance ran out they were easily the best quote I received.
My insurance package from Nissan allowed me to add up to £1,000 of extras to my car, and notifying them was a quick and painless experience. A quick phone call to their 0800 number, telling them what was being added, and handing over my debit card number for an administration fee of £40 and it was all done and dusted. No problems at all. My new documentation was sent out immediately and was in my arms within 48 hours.
Having an accident is where you can really find out about the company who insures you. My car was unfortunately involved in an accident in January, and so I saw this side of the company too. A call to the claims line with the details, and it was all taken care of. Out came an engineer to view the damage to the car (a write off unfortunately) within 48 hours, and within 5 days the final decision had been made on the future of my vehicle.
This was again a quick and easy process, notify Privilege of what has happened and they take all the pain out of it, taking over completely, but keeping you informed all the way through.
Great premiums, great cover, free legal cover, free courtest car, and amazingly quick service. And a company unafraid of modifications to boot. Does insurance get any better than this?!?
Advantages: Price Disadvantages: Poor service generally; pedantic; lack of response to complaints; ridiculous hold times
...insurance for the first time. Privilege were the cheapest quote I found. I set up the policy on line and was advised that I could have a no claims discount if I provided proof from my previous employer's insurer that I had made no claims. I requested this via my employer but it was not forthcoming and I contacted Privilege in Jan 09 to advise them that I had not deliberately 'overlooked' this but was having difficulty due to the redundancy circumstances. ... ...mentioned. At no point had Privilege ever mentioned that they would be so fussy about the wording, or provided me with the criteria so that I could pass this to the insurer. They also apparently believed that I had never told them I had come out of a Company Car scheme and that there was no record of my call in January!
At this point I got cross and lodged a complaint and was told that there was a long wait for Customer Relations (aka the Complaints ...

Advantages: Welcomes high grouped cars and young drivers Disadvantages: Claim procedure and customer service
...a VW Scirocco GTX and Privilege Insurance came recommended by a Astra GTE COnvertible driver. He got £25 for the recommendation and I got a very good deal. I insured with the same company for 3 more years and then changed the car. Again they offered a competitive price and the changeover from one car to the other was seamless. But then I had to make a claim. I noticed that there was damage to the back door but it had been done while the car was parked ... ...was competitive and I rang Privilege and asked if I could go ahead. They gave me the OK but due to the delay in form filling they said I would have to pay and claim back. I agreed and the job was done in less than 24 hours. But then I had to try and get the money back, it took 3 months and well over 20 phone calls. They lost the file, they said they had not received my invoice (they had it faxed to them 4 times), then they blamed one department who ...

Advantages: none..except its cheap...but you get what you pay for. Disadvantages: Rubbish service. Wouldnot use them again
Ive updated this opinion, but have left my original in place at the bottom. In feb this year I sold my Legend and bought a rather sporty Fiesta 1600 sport. Due to some little git, I only had the pleasure of driving it for 10 miles because they stole it after only 8 hours of ownership.
I should be grateful that I recovered my money from my insurance, but my opinion of this company has fallen to rock bottom. The process of sorting my claim out was ... ...staff that I dealt with cannot be written down with Ciao deleting it.
The car itself was written of after a chase involving the Police. I assumed because it had been recovered within 35 minutes of it being stolen and had the police to back me up that I would get a speedy pay out.I reported the theft to them on the Monday morning and pointed out that I had only owned it for 8 hours before the crash. It took 4 weeks before I heard anything in writing ...

...pretty high. When I tried Privilege I was amazed. There quote was £2000 or just over, it was still expensive, but i was getting quotes between £3500 and £4500. I agreed to the policy straight away, quite impressed with myself for finding such a 'bargain'.
Everything was fine until my partner had an accident on Christams Eve. At first, I was amazed at how friendly and efficent they seemed. They got me a hire car and put my mind at ease.
The trouble ... ...have been wasted in incompentance. Privilege are still blaming the first garage for the delay and believe that it's my fault for sending the car there. Why is it my fault? The first garage was one of Privilege's approved garages, they offered me the choice. Wouldn't you send your car to the local BMW approved garage if the insurance company were offering it to you? Besides which, Privilege employ an engineer to go round and check the repairs, surely ...

Not only were the tele sales-staff very polite and helpful, the procedure was reasonably quick over the telephone and you didn't have to wait for 20 minutes before connection.

Advantages: Lovely car Disadvantages: Size and petrol consumation
Ive how owned a baby blue Honda Legend for two months. Its the six cylinder 2.7 litres 2 door coupe auto version in metallic blue on a 1988 E plate.I bought it for £550 quid, up to now what a bargain. Its got leather electric seats, power steering, electric sunroof , electric windows and mirrors and central locking.Best of all its got cruise control and aircon....but heres the down side. The aircon was disconnected by a previous owner due to the low miles ber gallon.Even with it off I only average 9mpg round the doors and up to 23mpg on a run.It automatically indicators when you pass a petrol station(only joking)Insurance is a group 16,but is not expensive thanks to privilegeinsurance.
Even for the cars age it shows little rust.Only bits are round the bottom of the rear aches, so rust proofing is good. All the toys still work, but that ...

Advantages: It's A VW - Should Be Reliable! Looks Nice & Stylish. Disadvantages: It Keeps Braking :(
. The petrol cosumption is excellent; it lasts ages. However, it lacked electric windows, alarm and central locking, which is annoying.
I?m insured with Privilege as fully comp and first driver (without no claims bonus), costing me £1,900 in the first year. Ouch, but surely it would be more expensive with a larger sized engine car. The Polo is only a 1.0 litre for goodness sack. Still expensive. And the expenses don't stop there!
All right, I got the airbag warning sign and ABS faulty sign keep coming up on the dashboard. So I took it to a VW garage. Overall, it cost over £1500 to fix the darn problems. After diagnosing the car several times, they still couldn?t find what was wrong with it. They tried re-setting the systems various times, replacing the sensors, re-wiring connections, and still the lights on the dash board showed. In the end ...
Advantages: Reliability, strong engine, comfort, handling Disadvantages: Looks, not the fastest car on the planet...
Ok, It's not the prettiest car on the market. It's not the fastest car in it's class. It's not a high powered GTi spec vehicle. So why buy it?
Well, put simply, it's not the best in its class at anything, but then again it's not the worst. And Nissan have some of the best deals around.
I bought this as my first ever car, mainly tempted by the Nissan 3-2-1 deal that was being offered. I received 2 years free insurance from PrivilegeInsurance, and a years free servicing at a Main Dealer included in the package, a saving of around £4000 for me as an 18 year old. I will post about the insurance in the relevant section later.
So what about the car? Well, the styling is inoffensive, there is so many Almeras on the road you are oblivious to them. I chose a Carmine Red colour for mine, and I think around 95% of fellow Almera ...
