as to where they want him to run by clicking in the open space. However, it's what happens with your teammates that will prove to be the defining moment of this latest PES. Users will be able to click on other members of their side and tell them where to run, to perform one-two passes or make them create space by dragging away defenders. It will be possible to manipulate as many players as you can quickly get control of to make set pieces become a vital part of the attacking play. Make forwards run across goal, defenders will spin and attack the back post while the towering striker makes a dart for the near post - all of which is controlled by you.The game will automatically detect the type of pass you want to make depending on the distance the player you want to pass to is standing. If you point for a pass to a player on the other side of the pitch, the game will loop a high ball over. Likewise, if you chip a ball into space, you can then grab the nearest player and move him towards it.New gameplay modes have been added, including the Champions Road option. Players get the opportunity to train sub standard team and then play off against other teams online. Defeating these CPU teams enables you to take some of their players and strengthen your team on the road to glory.

As with previous releases since its inception in 1996, the ball is again treated as a separate entity, with the timing of shots entirely down to the player, while the new AI ensures that defenders work to close down space and block efforts on goal. Similarly, distribution of passes works along the same lines, with players using the space available to them to switch the ball. Close control has also been enhanced with more control when dribbling the ball, and a number of subtle moves added to bypass defenders and move the ball into space. Created specifically to make full use of the Wii?s unique control system, PES 2008 brings ... more
all the realism of Pro Evolution Soccer to the Nintendo machine, but with a more ?team-orientated? control system. The Wii game mirrors the real sport?s use of open space and the exploitation of defensive lapses and accurate passes essential in creating scoring opportunities. The Wii version of PES 2008 expands on these elements, with the use of the Nunchuck and Wii Remote controllers giving the player control over both the player on the ball, and those around him. Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 Features: Using a point and drag system, the player uses the Wii Remote to guide the player with the ball, and perform all the skill moves and close control with subtle movements of their hand. Instantly, the Wii Remote is used to point at nearby players to select them to receive a pass or to latch on to a through-ball. The Remote can also be used to steer the run of the receiving player, giving extra control as they thread through masses of defenders or run into open space. The new system gives the player full control over their team, and allows the man marking of specific threats, while shakes of the Wii Nunchuk can be used to perform sliding tackles, and send the goal keeper out to clear a loose ball. The strategic elements are alsoeasily accessed, with the directional controls of the Wii Remote used to activate tactical plays and spring counter attacks or send players tracking back. PES 2008 for Wii features six game modes, spanning Match, League and Cup elements, and Training and Trade section. The new version also features an exclusive ?Champions Road? competition, wherein players take their chosen team to compete in league competitions all over the world. The idea of the Champions Road tournament is to come top in every league, and build a team by receiving players from recently defeated sides. Experience points are added to all used players after a match, and

A rush installment.
Advantages: Good graphics, better referees, slightly improved master league, better Ai Disadvantages: No random selection, flawed gameplay.

Lets put this in context, i love many football games, but i'm a big fan of Pro Evolution Soccer. I started with Pro Evo 4 and have been enjoying 5 and 6 for a couple of years now. Pro Evo 2008 is the next installment of the series and i have mixed feelings. I'm reviewing the unpatched version. This review is aimed at players of Pro Evolution Soccer 6.
The Graphics: They are nice, not great but nice. The additions are ok; flagsmen for example can be seen running up and down the touch line, the grass is more realistic, the animations are better, and the player textures are good, if not a little plastic. If you have the computer to run this game then the graphics will probably impress. And that of course is just the point, you really need a decent computer to run this game, especially if your running Windows Vista like myself. After a while the graphics take a back seat anyway and you will begin to notice the gameplay problems.
Sound: The crowd noises are a little different, and one of the comentators is different and a little more wooden. The less said about the music as always the better.
The Gameplay: When i first started playing the gameplay felt more natural, and little more chaotic and scrappy, passing seemed a little harder and trapping the ball seemed a little more realistic. Dribbling is a whole lot easier then it used to be, and when playing against a friend, it was easy to dribble past a whole defence. Scoring is also incredibly easy too, from long range and short. The keepers show very little positional awareness and often fumble the easiest catches. The refereeing is much improved in my opinion, the game flows better and fouls are picked up with more accuracy. You can also dive, or simulate as it's called now...take that as you will.
Ai: Defenders close down spaces slightly faster and the player's team plays slightly more intelligently by moving into space better and make more runs into the box. The Ai team is better in attack, more direct and clever.
Features: Gone is random selection matches, where the computer would randomly select players from a selected league or country. This singlehandly killed the game for me, and i can't understand why such a great feature was removed. The master league is improved slightly. It is harder to sign the best players and there are improvements to the graphical layout of the master league menu, between matches.
Editing: The editing options are far as i know are slightly more limiting, but still good. A large number of patches are available for download, from various fan sites. Editing can also improve the gameplay to some extent, to suite the players needs.
Other issues: I have never played online, but i've heard that there are problems with lag. So if this is a deal breaker then i suggest you head over the the pro evo fan forums and read some threads. There are also performance issues to take into consideration, if you don't have a decent gamers PC.
Conclusion: I stopped playing Pro Evo 2008 a few weeks after a brought it, and went back to Pro Evo 6. If you have a powerful computer however and are prepared to download a few patches them you might be able to find a playable game somewhere there.
This is a great game i baught this the day it came out the reason i have not given the game 5/5 is because it has not got all the licences for kits and club names although the have got player names now unlike prior PES versions. i love the game it is so addictive and the gameplay is excelent, the players move like they do in real life and you can do so many different skills you can do in real life.
One of the main reason i baught this game is because ... ...friends round all the time you can still play when they are not at your house. you can play them online or any random person online so you can improve. But sadly this is not the case as konami have designed a very bad, online is more or less unplayable. It is so slow and choppy the players and ball dissappears and appears somewere else. IVe been able to play maybe 10% of the time a decent game were it was playable but majority of the time it was ...

Advantages: Online play, graphics and gameplay Disadvantages: Only few stadiums and not real team names due to licence
As a football fans, PES 2008 is the best pc game available right now. The gameplay is much more realistic than most of the online and dvd games. Compared to most pc games, the graphics is perfect. You will have the chance to compete online, in different leagues including English league, Spanish league and italian league, and you can also play in the master league mode. You will have the opportunity to build your own team from junior league to senior ... ...with people around the world and see who is better.
You can also add yourself to your master league team. To do that, you will need (at least) a mobile phone with a camera or a digital camera.
Only PC with RAM (random access memory) of not less than 512MB can run the game. Before you buy please check that your system matches the minimum requirements to avoid disappointment (if you bought your PC more than three years ago).
