experience with its latest instalment, Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 (PES 2009). The main upgrades from year to year in sports simulators are the expected features such as extended and updated rosters, teams, players and stadiums, with extra game modes perhaps and improved AI; this is where PES 2009 conforms to the norm. The AI is more intelligent, there's a heightened sense of realism with unique camera angles and improved graphics as well as the functionality of PES 2009 over Xbox Live and in the brand new Become a Legend mode where players start off as an amateur footballer who becomes scouted out to play for a top club and then must prove that he can wing it with the pros.

control interface, only made possible by the unique nature of the Wii controllers offered a completely new way for players to interact with PES. One year on and the programmers have listened to feedback from gamers and made PES 2009 on Wii an even more impressive title. The new game will retain the intuitive point and click interface used to control both the player in possession of the ball and to send those around him on to runs into space. However, a new traditional control system using either a Wii Remote or Classic controller has also been implemented.Using a Wii Remote held sideways or a classic controller, the secondary player can control the game in a manner familiar to existing versions of PES for other formats. Thus, they can control using familiar PES controls while their co-op player orchestrates their player and the rest of the team using the bespoke Wii system. An improved defense system will allow players to close down their opposition with more precision using the Z button, while a new targeting system sees the player steering where they place the ball when shooting. Coupled with better AI for the CPU-controlled players and opposition, the result is a more free-flowing and faster paced simulation. Set pieces have also been reworked, with more precision on free kicks and a wider range of corners than in the previous game.In keeping with versions for other formats, PES 2009 for Wii will also feature the UEFA Champions League, the addition of the ever-popular Master League for the first time on this format plus the return of an enhanced Champions Road competition, an enhanced Edit Mode, more online gameplay possibilities, and a Mii Training sub-game systemImproved defensive controlsSecond player can use 'Sideways' controllerChampions leag

Pro-EvolutionSoccer 5
Despite playing Fifa Football for most of my gaming life I decided to see what the fuss was all about with the latest in the Pro Evo franchise, No 5. The game has already reached a best-selling status by joining the many other elite Platinum games, which gives you a fantastic game for a fantastic price, saving you a bit of money! It boasts Arsenal's Thierry Henry and Chelsea's John Terry on the cover so you automatically know that these two Premiership giants are fully licensed as well as thousands of other players in Europe and the rest of the world. In the previous PES games this was a bit of a distraction because while the faces of the players reflected their real-life counterparts, the names were altered so it would not infringe on the player's copyright. Thankfully for the majority of the game is filled ...
Advantages: Re-playability, Various gameplay modes, More realistic, Improved graphics Disadvantages: Can become slightly addictive
I will admit to not having owned the entire series of ProEvolutionSoccer games. However, I have played all of them since 2005 and I sincerely believe that they have improved in those four years.
As the title of the game suggests, it is a soccer game. The user can play in a variety of gameplay modes. The various modes create a sense of challenge and allow the user to do almost anything they want, within the confines of the game.
Since the beginning of the ProEvolutionSoccer series, there has definately been an improvement in the graphics. Notably, the game has also become more realistic, making the signings of new players harder to accomplish and making the gameplay a far closer representation of the modern day football match.
The audio commentary during the actual matches that the user plays are a particular favourite part ...
Advantages: Champions League mode, superior graphics and gameplay Disadvantages: slow movement, club licensing names
As a keen gameplayer of the ProEvolutionSoccer series, I was looking forward to getting my hands on the 2009 copy.
Having debated for quite a few days on deciding whether Pro Evo or Fifa 09 was for me, I eventually went for Pro Evo... and I'm glad I did!
With added gameplay features, better graphics, and a better flow to the actual games, Pro Evo seems to be gradually building towards becoming the real thing.
The new "Uefa Champions League" feature is an excellent feature of the game, with an added intensity and realism now included.
"Become a Legend" mode is another feature to catch the eye, and many hours of my day have been spent building up my own player from a 17 year old at a non league club, to striving towards domestic and international honours.
The major let downs of the game are (again) the licensing laws which ...

Manufacturer's product description
It's back, and this years Pro Evolution Soccer has been reworked from the ground up! New player models, AI elements and physics routines all combine to create the most advanced and realistic football game ever, but at the heart of PES 2009 are two new modes designed to make players rethink the way they approach the game. 'PES Unites' is the key phrase Konami is using to sum up the ethos of the new game. PES 2009 also improves on its many existing game modes and adds a number of new ways to play the game. Central to this is the new 'Become a Legend' solo mode, which casts the user as a midfielder or striker within a match. Using a default vertical camera view, the player starts as a rookie pro at the start of their career, and charts the many highs and lows of becoming a professional player. An extension of the popular 'Fix' mode, the 'Become a Legend' mode sees the player operate in their favoured attacking position, and work as part of the overall team as opposed to controlling every member as in a normal game.
