Pro Evolution Soccer was the best footy game ever, and what you want to know is: does this

sequel better it? Thankfully, it does. The first thing that strikes you about Pro Evolution Soccer 2--an anglicised version of the Japanese Winning Eleven 6--is how much faster it is, not just in terms of the pace of your players but also their ability to turn more sharply when receiving the ball. In another clear attempt to up the tempo of the game, which some more arcade-orientated gamers complained was too slow and fiddly, players now recover much more quickly when they lose the ball--so there's no waiting around for them to have a slice of orange before they deign to take part in the match again. And they need to be a bit sharper on their pins because it's now much more difficult to tackle and conversely you have a lot more control when dribbling the ball. There are other minor changes, such as a slightly odd new horizontal camera option, but basically this is bigger, better and more. Just in case you've forgotten, that's bigger, better and more of the best football game ever, so if you like your footy you really will want to be purchasing this. --David Jenkins

all the realism of Pro Evolution Soccer to the Nintendo machine, but with a more ?team-orientated? control system. The Wii game mirrors the real sport?s use of open space and the exploitation of defensive lapses and accurate passes essential in creating scoring opportunities. The Wii version of PES 2008 expands on these elements, with the use of the Nunchuck and Wii Remote controllers giving the player control over both the player on the ball, and those around him. Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 Features: Using a point and drag system, the player uses the Wii Remote to guide the player with the ball, and perform all the skill moves and close control with subtle movements of their hand. Instantly, the Wii Remote is used to point at nearby players to select them to receive a pass or to latch on to a through-ball. The Remote can also be used to steer the run of the receiving player, giving extra control as they thread through masses of defenders or run into open space. The new system gives the player full control over their team, and allows the man marking of specific threats, while shakes of the Wii Nunchuk can be used to perform sliding tackles, and send the goal keeper out to clear a loose ball. The strategic elements are also easily accessed, with the directional controls of the Wii Remote used to activate tactical plays and spring counter attacks or send players tracking back. PES 2008 for Wii features six game modes, spanning Match, League and Cup elements, and Training and Trade section. The new version also features an exclusive ?Champions Road? competition, wherein players take their chosen team to compete in league competitions all over the world. The idea of the Champions Road tournament is to come top in every league, and build a team by receiving players from recently defeated sides. 4. The presence of an on-screen referee is perhaps the game's most obvious new feature. What's more, this twenty-third being on the pitch is more intelligent than his invisible predecessors: advantages are played more frequently and the fairness of decisions is improved. Another welcome new feature is that of player-specific special moves, whereby only certain gifted footballers will have outlandish tricks in their repertoire--very much in keeping with real life. Although there was little room for improvement over Pro Evolution Soccer 3's supreme gameplay, Konami has seemingly found it. Dribbling has been given especial attention; the result is tighter control. Crosses, too, are now easier to perform exactly as desired. Also, penalty kicks and free kicks offer increased accuracy with their adoption of a new control system. Some 136 club sides, including all 56 teams of the Spanish, Italian and Dutch leagues (these are officially licensed) are on offer in Pro Evolution Soccer 4, as well as 50-odd national teams. The Xbox version also features online play via Xbox Live. Typically, this new version of Pro Evolution is the most comprehensive to date--the new season in videogame football kicks off in spectacular fashion. --Jonti Davies

and additions to make it even more realistic in both gameplay and graphics. If England don’t win the World Cup you can always take solace in the latest Pro Evo. The lowdown: This latest sequel sees one of the biggest overhauls in the game’s history with the new improvements to the already impressive animation directly affecting the way you play. Dribbling with the ball is now easier but the quality of your passing and shooting now depends on the position of a player’s body in terms of both accuracy and power. Make a shot straight after a sharp turn, for example, and your chances of hitting the target are slim. Opponent and team artificial intelligence has also been greatly increased, to the point where every man on the pitch is thinking independently. Apart from the animation, the graphics in general have also been upgraded with much better player likenesses. Most exciting moment: Thanks to the new changes Pro Evo 6 plays a much more attacking game than previously, with counter attacks after a fluffed shot on goal made much easier than previously. Since you ask: Although the game doesn’t have the official FIFA World Cup license it does simulate an unofficial international tournament, including both qualifying rounds and the finals. The bottom line: The best just keeps getting better with the most beautiful virtual game ever. HARRISON DENT
Advantages: Best football game available, ulra realistic, excellent graphics Disadvantages: Poor commentary, Lack of real player names in some leagues
Pro Evolution Soccer 4 IS the greatest football game of all time (until PES 5 is released on 21/10/05).
Having played the Pro Evolution Soccer series since it's inception on PS2 the 4th installment is undoubtebly the best of them all. The simpler difficulty levels make it easy to pick up and play if you are ... ...gameplay and this is why Pro Evolution Soccer 4 is the greatest of all football games. The superb gameplay is well complemented by the crisp graphics and presentation with the big game atmosphere only being let down by the rather poor commentary from Peter Brackley (of Football Italia fame) and Trevor Brooking. The thing that really illustrates the calibre of this game is that a hard fought 1 -0 win is often more satisfying than a bigger victory ...

...it is an improvement on Pro Evo 3. The commentary on Pro Evo 4 is still well behind the likes of Fifa 2005 but still is much better than that in Fifa Street(see my review)
*Graphics* 4/5
The graphics in this game are very good. While they sometimes can be seen as blurred they are still top notch, for PS2 anyways. The graphics in terms of depthness and detail are probably not as good as Fifa 2005 or Fifa Street but are still very good, and I feel ... ...5/5 (basically constant play until Pro Evo 5)
This game has a infinitive lifespan (until around October when Pro Evo 5 is out). To win all the cups it will take you a very long time, and if you have mates who like the game you will always be playing it. Even though I have a more recent footy game, Fifa Street, I still spend the majority of time playin Pro Evo 4 with my mates.
A top class game ...

Advantages: Best footy game ever, excellent playability and graphics. Disadvantages: Awful commentary.
...big seller this Christmas with Pro Evolution Soccer. If you’re becoming all flustered wandering why they’ve abandoned the ISS games –don’t! Pro Evo is just the new name on top of what is essentially ISS 2 for the PS2 so essentially this is ISS 2. Kick Off: It becomes apparent almost immediately just how much has changed since last year’s release of ISS. There were quite a few elements that seemed somehow unfinished. Just cast your mind back to the ... ...commentary. In Pro Evo the menus have had a total overhaul and now sport a clever music score that changes as you view different pages. Not only are all of the featured stadia full of life now – there are also new selections. Graphics are overhauled dramatically and no longer will you see limbs appearing out of other players’ chests during goal celebrations (more on graphics later). Commentary, well, that’s as bad as ever but we’ll get to that shortly. ...

Advantages: The best football game ever programmed Disadvantages: Commentary is rubbish, player names are not licensed
Pro Evolution Soccer
Firstly, let me say that this game is not to be confused with ISS Soccer, a mistake that many of my friends and colleagues have made to their dismay.
There are two development teams working for the same software company, each focusing on a different game entirely, although only one game is worth the bother.
Pro Evolution Soccer is the natural progression for players of ISS Pro Evolution 2 on the original Playstation. It is ... ...that FIFA is better than Pro Evo is a nutcase.
If this applies to you, do not read on, my words are not for your eyes, therefore, do not post any sarcastic comments as they will not be taken heed of!
I’m sure you’re all aware of the rules of football, if not, why not? I obviously need not go through what the game is about, only more of what the game manages to do for the future of console gaming, and maybe describe the options available ...

Any names that are not right can be corrected with the player edit options, you can even create your own player, fancy playing alongside Owen in the World Cup or replacing Philip Neville!
The commentary has not changed much and is probably the only thing still lacking from this great series of games.
