I imagine that we all have days that we are knackered not able to have any sleep and still need to get though the whole day! So sometimes we (well I) resort to easy answers that in this case is pro plus, to keep me going.
Well they them selves state that they help relieve your tiredness to keep you on track! Suggesting that this caffeine boost is what you need to keep you going.
Every pill contains 50mg of caffeine, caffeine has been proven to heighten alertness and temporarily boost energy levels.
Although it is relevant to say that according to “caffeine corner” contrary to popular opinion there is no more of the stimulant substance in one pro plus pill than there is in the average cup of coffee. However, the pill form makes it easier to take extremely high doses, and achieve the effects of speeding.
Personal I opted for the pro plus rather than the coke or cups of tea for the ease of taking them really,
as you don’t always have time to make your self a coffee – tea whatever and too many fizzy drinks will just aid to putting weight on!! So it was a case of swigging them with some water and getting on with things.
****** Dose - route - frequency ******
Directions are for adults and children over the age of 12 to take one to two tablets with water and inform you not to exceed two tablets in any one-hour or 12 tablets in 24 hours.
Although these directions are clearly written on the pack and that the pharmacist almost always repeats them out loud to you when your buying them the directions are often ignored and many people will take over the suggested dose.
I myself have taken way over 12 in one day, feeling like I needed to at one point I was getting my niece and nephew up an ready for school going straight to uni (yes working hard) and picking the kids up from school doing all the usual stuff with them and then going to work and doing a night. This routine was one difficult to continue being knackered all the time no time to sleep and having to be on the ball for work nursing. So I was taking 4 tablets every hour continually.
Believe me this isn’t the health thing to do, as the constant stream of instant caffeine in your system increases your heart rate and in the dose I was ingesting leading to palpations. And also resorted in many headaches and migraines also which I guess was the mixture of the pills and the lack of sleep and the stress of it all.
****** Side effects ******
Noted effects of caffeine in general are that it is a mild stimulant, it increase your heart rate and blood pressure. You should have a general feeling of being “perked up” and that you should be more able to sustain brain work.
Higher doses of caffeine can cause side effects such as headaches, nausea, dizziness, restlessness, insomnia, tense muscles, panic attacks, ringing in the ears, diarrhoea, convulsions and even seeing light flashes.
Warnings that pro plus gives are simply if your tiredness continues then you should consult your GP, and also ambiguously to tell your doctor or pharmacist if you experience and “unusual” effects after ingesting pro plus!
Although you should be warned that there have been cases of overdose (in massive amount i.e. above 300) hallucinations,
Caffeine is also a mild diuretic (water tablet) therefore it is advised to drink a glass of water with easy tablet to replace the lost fluids.
As I have stated above the side effects for me (on increased dose) was an increase heart rate the normal being approx 80 mine was 130-150 beats per minute, also the headaches were in part due to the constant caffeine.
***** Where can you purchase them? *****
You can buy pro plus from most supermarkets and chemist in packs of 24 (approx £2.15). 48 (approx 4.00) and 96 (approx £5.65) even.
**Misc**
Caffeine is rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream though the stomach and the small intestine and the peak effects are reached between 15 and 45 minutes after taking the drug.
With so many people taking and even relying on pro plus for a number of years they become physically addicted and on stopping this drug withdrawal symptoms include abdominal pain, grumpiness, headaches, cravings, tiredness, lethargy and confusion.
The worrying thing about pro plus is the status that it now has, becoming a part of the “students tool kit” reaching what has been described as cult status with students and workers using this as a quick fix rather that addressing the health issues involved with burning the candle at both ends.
States such as Canada have made caffeine tablets prescription only.
Personally what can I say should really know better than to rely on a drug to help get me though my “knackered” patches but I didn’t I took pro plus as my quick fix and although in doing so it had health consequences they did work, waking me up enough to get though days and nights.
I can see easily how people become addicted to pro plus, though I would advice though my own experience of pro plus that if your going to take them, then stick to the advised doses and really try and get some sleep in!!
The only other thing that i will add is that obviously pro plus is caffeine a stimulant that is there to give you an energy boost to keep you going as long as you need it.Well if you have taken these that don’t be surprise that when you have the opportunity to sleep with all the caffeine in your system it makes it hard to drop of.
In many cases users have stated that they need Nytol to get them to sleep and the pro plus to get them though the day. This is going to be a cycle that never ends unless you chance something.
