Proactiv Repairing Day Lotion

I've always had a little trouble with my skin and have already tried various treatments but never found something that I would actually like enough to stick to it. A friend brought a Proactiv Solution set from a business ...

***How did I hear about it?***
I've always had a little trouble with my skin and have already tried various treatments but never found something that I would actually like enough to stick to it. A friend brought a Proactiv Solution set from a business trip in the States and was recommending it strongly.

***Where did I get it? How much did it cost?***
For Christmas I got a set from my mother (pointed her in the right direction...). She ordered the 4 piece cleansing set for 39.90 from proactivsolution.co.uk. This report is about the third product of this set, the "Repairing Day Lotion".

There is also an equivalent "third step" for the evening cleansing ritual - the Night Lotion. I will review this shortly.

***Set only!***
The first disadvantage is thus that you can only get hold of a complete set of Proactiv Solution, but on the other hand the system is designed to be used together so should also probably be used this way.

***How does it look?***
The lotion is in a plain white bottle of 60ml, which is about half the size of the Cleanser and Toner in the set. All its writing is in dark green and a "3" together with a sun tells you that this is the right product to use after cleansing (1) and toning (2) in the morning.

***Appearance, Smell & How does it Work?***
The lotion is white, slightly translucent and smells a little of tea tree oil. There's a good reason for this since the main ingredients are salicyclic acid and tea tree oil.

I have already had the chance to use the Lotion that comes with the American set and I have to say that the smell there is much nicer, if not completely absent. First negative impression compared to the US version...

***When & How to Use***
You are supposed to use the lotion once a day in the morning after the Cleanser and Toner. However, I found that I usually have to use it a few times more often a day because my skin feels a little dry and in need to moisturiser.

I haven't had that effect with the American version either, but then I have to admit that I probably haven't used in long and thoroughly enough to *really* compare the two.

***Efficient?***
Yes and no. Compared to various other lotions I had you still only need very little of it. Comparing it to the US version (again) makes it stand back though. I used to need about half of what I'm using with the European lotion now...

***Dry skin***
The lotion definitely doesn't nourish my face enough. Several times a day I feel that I have dry skin and re-apply the moisturiser. I've now gone back to using my normal moisturiser *after* having applied this lotion so that I get (hopefully) double benefit...

Moreover, I still occassionally get new spots during the day - despite the regular application of the lotion.

***Conclusion***
The lotion lacks all the good characteristics of its American brother (or sister? cousin?): it smells more strongly, is less efficient and leaves the skin dryer while not 100% preventing new spots.

***Buy again?***
Would I buy it again (i.e. would the cleanser be an pro-argument for deciding whether or not to order a new set)?
No. There have to be products out there that do both - get you clear skin AND moisture. I haven't found it yet, but I'm convinced it must exist... :-)

***Recommended?***
Probably in combination with the set since all ingredients are specifically adjusted for problem skin and work together. But don't throw away your old moisturiser...
No if you're after a something that moisturises your face.
