I brought Professor Layton and the Curious Village around Christmas time for £19.99 after having all the Dr Kawashima brain training type of games I thought the puzzles might be more fun. How right I was.
When you first turn the game on in your DS you go straight to the title screen. At the title screen you have three options new game, continue or bonuses. As you will be new to the game you will select new game, once you have clicked new game you are taken to the name entry screen where you type in your name then select ok (note: when you have typed in your name and selected ok you can't go back and change it so I'd make sure you are happy with your decision and spelled checked it before selecting the ok)
After all this is done you will go to a short film introduction thing where Professor Layton is telling his assistant Luke all about the curious village of St. Mystere and how when the wealthy baron in the village passed away his family contacted him to help with the will, as the person who manages to locate the treasure of the "Golden Apple" will get the whole estate which is the whole of St. Mystere.
As the short film concludes Layton & Luke exit the car and try to get into the village but they can't without answering the puzzle right. This is where the puzzles begin as you start making your way through the village you will find even more puzzles all worth picarats (like currency) some will even help you with your mission by giving you hints, a strange gizmo or a piece of a painting.
Throughout the game there is many puzzles to be completed and if they get a bit to hard you can buy hints using your picarats to help you complete the puzzle. The more times you get a puzzle wrong the less picarats it will be worth. The puzzles you complete the closer you are to locating the "Golden Apple" If you ever want to turn off the game and want to save your progress you can do so by clicking the start button and save & exit. Then to carry on with the game at a later date all you have to do is turn on the game and select continue then chose your user name that you selected at the name entry screen when you first began the game.
Once you have successfully located the "Golden Apple" the game has another short film about the village of St. Mystere. After the film concludes it will say that you have successfully completed the game and then take you back to the main title screen. Once there if you click on bonuses you will see any of the puzzles you have completed and can play them whenever you like. You will also notice that you can still click continue on your game to take you back to St. Mystere this is because if you haven't found all the pieces to the painting or haven't quite completed the strange gizmo you can go back and find the pieces this will also unlock more puzzles for you to do in bonus mode.
On the whole I love this game the minute I started playing it I found it very addictive sometimes I did get annoyed when I couldn't complete a puzzle but I then realised if I save the game and leave it for a few hours then go back on it. The answer to the puzzle I was stuck on will come to my head first time. This is a great game for anyone who wants to challenge there mind and logic.
