Dreamweaver 3 Bible
Advantages: Extremely through and easy to read Disadvantages: A lot to take in, but if you use it more as a reference book rather than one to read and learn you should be ok
...what you get) aspect of Dreamweaver is hard, when I've been writing in HTML for years. However, I decided to buy the Dreamweaver 3 Bible, as although I was producing moderatly decent webpages with Dreamweaver, I had the strangest feeling that I was missing out on something..... It turns out I was! However I was fazed, and still am by the size of the book (over 2 inches thick!), I found the easiest way was just to skim the book, then when there was ... ...included with a trial of Dreamweaver (in case you haven't already got it), Flash4 and Fireworks3, as well as over 300 dreamweaver extensions, to help you make even more fantastic websites. It also shows you how you can incoporate Flash and Fireworks into your website, but thats a little over my head just yet! All in all a definite good investment if you want to get the best use out of Dreamweaver, after all if you've spent £200 on the software, you ...

The Complete Desktop Companion
Advantages: The best desktop Java companion avalble Disadvantages: Due to the size of Java, the book has been slit over several publications
The book is THE required Java reference. Originally pointed toward the series by a college lecturer, it immediately became an irreplaceable handbook, allowing me to become competent in Java in less than a day. Owners of previous versions of the book could do worse than pick up this update. For these new to Java, the updated introduction to Java chapters is concise and informative, providing one of the best tutorials available. Although, due to the ...

Advantages: Very good introduction / reference Disadvantages: Lacks examples
...series of three books covering Java 2 1.2 and 1.3 in a very short number of pages. The book starts with chapters explaining the concepts in brief (with very few examples) and then the majority of the book is a reference guide to the libraries. In case you're wondering, the definition of enterprise when referring to Java, is the technology needed to make the kind of applications used by large enterprises, ie. distributed ones

As with Java in a Nutshell though, those kind people at O’Reilly have put every example from every Java book on the website, so you can get the examples from the O'Reilly Java 2D book as well as the Java Examples in a Nutshell and work out what’s going on and how it’s done. Learning indeed!
Advantages: Well written with good explanations and exercises Disadvantages: A tad complicated, then it is computer programming
I got this book from amazon.co.uk for help with an A-Level computing project. It's a bit difficult to get into, but luckily I had a friend to help me who had already lent me Perl & CGI for the WWW - A Visual Quickstart Guide. Thanks to these facts, I'm managing to struggle through the boo, although I must add that I'm a complete novice programmer with my previous experience being mostly limited to HTML. Basically it explains things a lot more clearly ... ...a bigger help, so I actually know why things are happening, rather than just how to make them happen.
This book is a must for anyone wanting to learn the language, although it doesn't do a lot on Web Programming using CGI - only the last chapter caters for that. ...
