Project Gotham Racing is my first adventure into the world of xbox 360 and my first taste of Microsoft games consoles.
I guess my gaming experience has been quite normal having spent my early teens working my way through successive generations nintendo consoles. Then I grew up and moved on the Playstion where my gaming tastes changed from platform games to racing games and first person shooters. This is when I first encountered the Gran Turismo series and I was hooked. Which I followed onto the PS2 which ultimately led to GT4 probably the most complete driving simulator available.
I wasn't planning on buying an XBOX 360 I intended to wait and see how the PS3 shaped up. But, by chance an opertunity to purchase a xbox 360 premium pack and PGR3 at my local supermarket arose. I decided to buy it to sell on ebay, but the temptation to play on it was too great, opened it to have one quick go (BIG MISTAKE, I haven't stopped playing on it since).
I hadn't experiened either of the previous Project Gotham Racing incarnations so was new to the Kudos system (points awarded for driving style, tail slides a-plenty) which adds to the playability.
The game is so easy to get into with the Novice difficulty setting give you time to become acustomed to the controls of your chosen ride whilst still earning credits (which are used to purchase new cars) and gaining kudos which unlock new aspects of the game. Personally I have just moved onto the normal difficulty setting which had I started on I probably would have lost interest very quickly.
There are several areas where PGR 3 is superior to GT4 firstly the grahics even hooked up to a standard tv the graphics are better that GT4 but when you conect to a HD TV they are astonishing for games console, the realism is incredible. The second area is the online mode using xbox live gold subscription (sold separately). Another area is the fact that you are given enough credits at the start of the solo career to purchase some seriously hot metal such as Honda NSX's and Nissan Skylines.
GT4 is still better in that it that there are a lot more cars to choose from (However, I believe that new cars can be purchased on xbox live. Another thing i really miss from GT4 is the rally stages and cars.
So now for the big question is it worth the money, to which I have 3 answers. 1) If you have an XBOX 360 thenn it is a resounding yes.
2) However, if your planning on spending over £300 pounds on the game and console just to play this gamme then answer would probably have to be stick with your PS2 and GT4 until the PS3 and the latest installment of Gran Turrismo is released.
3) Or if like me you have more money than sense or an an understanding bank manager / student loan burning a hole in your pocket. Buy the xbox 360 with PGR3 now and then by the PS3 when it comes out buy it as well.
Which ever of the above options I would say that this is a must have game for the xbox 360.
