Great niche product
Review of Epson EMP TWD1 by nemo183

Advantages: Quick setup, no wires, low running costs
Disadvantages: No substitute for proper home cinema

With it's built in DVD player and sound system, this neat product can be set up in minutes to project your favourite DVD, and with some basic leads will display TV / Games console / Camcorder / Freeview etc with ease. The built in nature of the DVD and sound system is both a blessing and a curse. Good points - no complex wiring, great ease of use. Bad point - medicore sound quality. This is not a product for anyone who is into home cinema to even ...
...the fact that the sound system is contained within the unit presents some positioning problems. However, as an expensive present for your average teenager, it's great. Picture quality is excellent, and clever adjustable optics mean that the unit can be placed well off centre in a small room and still show an optically correct, large scale image. Quite importantly, spare projector bulbs are around 1/3 the cost of the unit - down from the industry ... Read review

Excellent short-throw projector
Review of BenQ MP771 by galloxxl

Advantages: Big image when placed one meter from the wall
Disadvantages: didn't notice any so far

...I decided to buy this BenQ MP771. I've been working with it for several days now and I have to say that it met all my expectations. So far I am very satisfied. I like its short-throw technology because I place the projector only one meter away from the wall and I still get a huge picture displayed, about 70". That's perfect as my meeting room is not that big. You have to imagine that a standard projector which a friend borrowed me only managed a ...
...I can't complain either. The BenQ MP771 offers bright and clear pictures. The reason are high 3000 ANSI lumen which creates a great brightness. Also the hight contrast ratio of 2000:1 which produces very sharp pictures contributes to the good overall picture impression (just for comparison, an standard contrast ration is 400:1). The noise level is low, during start and shutdown the cooler can be heard but during normal operation mode no noise is ... Read review

Big image with low features
Review of BenQ MP771 by pipedos

Advantages: Large imege from short distances
Disadvantages: expensive , lack of lens Zoom and lack of horizontal keystone

Ive just got the benq mp771 and i must say I am really disappointed with it , even though it has the capability of projecting large images in very small spaces it lacks from some basic features that every projector of this price should have , It also fails in recognizing signals from apple computers and you have to connect and disconnect VGA cable every time you want to project a VGA signal. I include the number of features this projector doesn't ...
...perfectly in angle. The benq mp771 DOSENT have a manual zoom, it only have manual focus in its lens, so it needs to be located exactly in a certain distance to fill your screen perfectly, that is a problem when you want to fit perfectly the image into a screen and you are planing some fiscal place to put the projector. The digital zoom only ZOOMS IN , what if I need a little more distance for the fiscal conditions to place the projector , why cant ... Read review

Panasonic PT AX 100 E
Review of Panasonic PT AX100E by AndrewPo

Advantages: Works in relatively bright conditions, quiet
Disadvantages: unreliable, very big, short bulb life

have been using the Panasonic PT AX 100E as my main TV for just over a year now. I paid £900 for it then, but the price has dropped and even the improved PT AX200 can now be bought for about £700. The picture quality is extremely good in a dark room and quite watchable during the day even with the curtains open for all but the darkest movies. In bright conditions the colours can become a little washed-out although there are various viewing options ...
...that hasn't fixed the problem. Panasonic have not replied to my requests for help. Bulb-life is just 2000 hours when used in normal mode. I'm going to give up and go back to a proper telly. Update: I complained to Panasonic customer services, rather than trying to use customer support, and they immediately got back to me and said that they will look at the projector for me, despite it being out of warranty. A kind gentleman who read this review ... Read review

Sony Projector, Great all rounder!
Review of Sony VPL CX1 by CHAOS1979

Advantages: Amazing Depth of Colour and Picture Sharpness, portable
Disadvantages: Delicate - Replacement bulbs expensive

I have had this for around a year and its a great piece of Home Cinama Kit. We have the projector set up in our living room and we get a fantastic picture on movies and a 105" Screen. Our room just isn't long enough to make it bigger! We also use it for parties as you can get some outstanding 3d visualisations for winamp etc, always the talk of the party. I was very wary buying one of these, but i found one cheap on ebay and went for it, im so glad ...
...it an awful lot. There is the obvious drawbacks, you need to have adequate blinds/ cutrains to block light, it needs a dark room to work at its full potential, and be damn careful because those bulbs are expensive to replace. The set up is easy, connections are straightforward, and there are a good range of menu options enabling you to adjust the projector to your own preferences. ... Read review
