Well, now that everyone’s awake, it’s time to sign off again. This concludes my Proline trilogy, hope it helped and hope someone will go out and pick one up just to prove what a great bargain they are.
By now everyone should’ve read my toaster and kettle review; this is the third in the trilogy, the third piece of set 3.
For anyone who has not seen the other two reviews, the story goes that me and boyfriend were out shopping for a vacuum cleaner when he happened to spot a fantastic gift set. A Proline kettle, toaster and coffee maker, for the stunning price of £15, £5 per item, that beats Tesco Value! After being informed that this was the correct price we quickly bought one and fled the shop before they changed their minds.
We got home and found that all the items were individually packaged within the gift set box. Within the coffee maker box there was a lot of excess wrapping, it’s main purpose to bump up my recycling. The product also came with a one year guarantee. There was also a user manual in the box, which as you should all realise is lost, never to be seen again but never mind eh?! Luckily we’ve had coffee makers before and are both aware of how to use them.
Anyone who read the toaster and kettle review can now wake up as we are getting on to the coffee maker now - WAKEY WAKEY, need a cup of strong coffee?
As with the other items in the set the majority of the coffee maker is black, the base is black and the top section holding the filter is black. The black parts of the machine are shiny plastic which looks rather nice if a little cheap but at least it matches my kitchen. This makes the item very easy to clean, but can also mean it often appears dirty, just one smudged fingerprint is noticeable. Should have mentioned, sat on the base is a plastic jug with a black handle. This appears to be quite small but can hold approx 4 or 5 large mugs of coffee.
Now to use this device, there is a small black plastic lever which separates the lid from the filter holding section, this can then be turned to the side or removed from the large hinge easily. Inside there is a filter, the coffee and water are added here, then this can be snapped back into position. Some coffee makers have disposable filters, this one does not and so needs to be cleaned, the only problem with that is, you try and clean a coffee filter, its difficult and always looks dirty no matter how hard you try. Anyway, back to the cup of coffee. There is a switch on the right hand side, by the base which then needs to be turned on. This heats the water and lets it into the jug. This is quite a noisy process though it is quite quick so you don’t have to put up with it for long. You can then leave the coffee maker, help yourself to cups of coffee whenever you desire and they will always be hot, will that’s the idea. This coffee maker keeps your coffee warm and if you drink it as soon as you pour it you won’t find a problem. But I like my coffee like lave, burning my mouth and this item does not allow this. Then again on the plus side the coffee tastes so much nicer than instant and we only have cheap filter coffee.
We have had this device over three months and never had a problem with it though unlike the kettle and toaster it is not used everyday nor will it ever be. However when I come down Saturday mornings I do tend to put it on, make the place smell nice while I clean, nothing worse than getting up to the smell of bleach!
Again, as this product is Proline, one of the cheaper brands on the market, it is basic, but if you just fancy some filter coffee now and again why not?! It’s cheap, it’s compact, it looks nice and I must say it’s much safer than the kettle. This item does not get overly hot, unless a child were to place their hand onto the hot plate which warms the coffee I don’t think there is much danger of injury. The warm coffee is just that, warm, the jug is also pretty small so it could be tipped over but only with mild results, I can not see any harm coming from one of these.
