Manufacturer's product description
The Promise SATAII150 TX2plus 2+1 SATA / PATA PCI adapter offers the premier solution for combining new, high performance Serial ATA disk drives with existing Parallel (Ultra) ATA drives using the same controller. With the SATAII150 TX2plus, users can connect up to two SATA drives and 2 PATA drives, offering users a cost-effective solution for upgrading their existing storage system with SATA. The controller complies with Serial ATA II, Extensions to SATA 1.0 specification and features including Native Command Queuing and Disk Activity LED headers. In addition to Native Command Queuing, the controller also supports Tagged Command Queuing with drives that can take advantage of this capability. Command Queuing increases I/O performance by intelligently reordering data requests so that the data can be more quickly accessed than if the commands weren't ordered. The SATAII150 TX2plus controller also supports Serial ATAPI devices. For support of legacy parallel ATA devices, the SATAII150 TX2plus supports Ultra/ATA devices up to 133MB/sec data transfer rate. Drawing upon Promise's expertise in ATA, the controller incorporates performance enhancing features such as CRC error checking and separate timing for two devices attached to one ATA channel. The SATAII150 TX2plus also supports parallel ATA ATAPI devices. The low-profile form factor SATAII150 TX2plus PCI adapter incorporates many of Promise Technology 's advanced host bus adapter features. The 66MHz PCI bus supports up to 266MB/sec burst data transfer rate. The SATAII150 TX2plus also includes large LBA support for drives above 137GB, and its onboard BIOS automatically identifies and configures drive type (Serial ATA, Ultra DMA mode).
Advantages: inexpensive, can use any IDE hard drives Disadvantages: slow
...The Promise ConnectStor II, is a nice little RAID 0/1 Network Attached Storage device. The hardware RAID is what attracted me to this NAS in the first place, and the flexibility of using my own IDE hard drives has sold me.
Opening the box and installing my 2x250GB WD hard drives was fairly easy. There's enough space in the box and the power and IDE cables are long enough to get everything hooked up. The only thing that was challenging, was the fact that the hard drives mount to a plate which in turn bolts to the case. So once the hard drives were installed, I had to hold the plate with both drives on it, hook up the cables and then position and attach the plate.
Plugged everything in and powered up. The first problem encountered was the IP conflict. The Promise ConnectStor II uses 192.168.1.1 address as the default setting...

Advantages: Support, specifications Disadvantages: Does not work properly
...After recently buying a new laptop and already having 2 PC's in the house we thought it was time to connect them all together so that we could share files and all access the internet. This is the first router that we have ever had and after costing around £90 i expected good things from it but as yet it has not delivered that promise. This is despite it having a 'What Laptop - Gold award' and 'Web user - Bronze award'
As for the specification the DG834GT's coverage is stated to be 4x the range of 802.11b/g. I have found that its range is very extensive, having used it 15 metres from the modem but the signal strength does drop very quickly, even in my room which is only about 5 metres away, the strength is only very low (the lowest bar).
It is also quoted to be 10x faster than the speed of 802.11b which at 108Mbps it is but only...

Advantages: Six buttons for quick program startups Disadvantages: The mouse is quite big
...it promises. It is a cordless, optical mouse, which can be used on both rough and smooth surfaces (traditional mouses -with a trackball- have some trouble with the latter). The six buttons allow you to speed up the process of opening up certain programs and performing certain tasks. Despite the few shortcomings (its size, the limited possibilities of thw buttons), it's a good mouse for someone who wants to have a cordless, optical mouse, but isn't interested in paying a lot.
FINAL VERDICT
Seven points out of ten....

The main genre that I read is crime fiction and it wasn't until the last couple of years that I started to read Harlan Coben books. Now I've read most his novels and can't decide on whether I prefer his Myron Bolitar series or his stand alone novels.... more
