Pru-mental

Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Long claims process, treat Customers as liars

I first heard of Prudential when I was around 6 years old, when they were also an Estate Agents. My mum and dad sold their first house with them and as far as I can remember, were happy with them. So, when jay and I moved into our first house together in January 2001, I was advised that as we were renting, although we wouldn't need Buildings Insurance, we would need Contents Insurance. I used Prudential purely on a recommendation - I was 19 at the time and was overawed by the vast amount of the Insurance companies offering their services. After all, I had never had to do anything like this before. A work colleague told me that they had been with prudential for years and were very happy with them. I signed up with Prudential over their website, www.pru.co.uk. The sign up process was easy, although the layout of their ...

Pru-ve me right: My first experience of insurance

Advantages: Award-winning customer service, freephone number for quotes/sales, optional breakdown cover, good quote
Disadvantages: No interest-free payment plans, not free to phone them when you are a customer

pondered and phoned the seven that I had whittled down from my very long list of potential insurers. I did this on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. I settled for Prudential in the end (on Thursday of this week, the day I bought the car) because their quote, whilst not the cheapest (that was Norwich Union Direct, closely followed by Tesco), coupled with the friendly customer service, made me feel comfortable and assured. I am a great believer in going with your gut instinct. Likewise, I believe that you get what you pay for, so don't necessarily go for the cheapest. The Prudential have been handling our financial affairs since 1848, and that surely stands for something. Although over 25, I am a learner driver (long story!) and holder of a provisional licence only. The Ka is fairly cheap to insure, of course, but I found that, as it has been ...

The Man From The Pru Can Take A Hike

Advantages: Simple documentation, good range of cover
Disadvantages: Lengthy claims process, over-priced premiums

I don?t really recall what it was that first attracted me to Prudential as a home contents insurance provider. I suspect that it was largely due to the fact that my parents had always been insured for everything by ?The Man From The Pru? and after some pretty dire service from Legal and General, I think I decided to go with Prudential. I?ve been insured with them for about seven years, but recent events have led me to question the validity of continuing to pay for cover in this way. POLICY COVER My Prudential policy is a ?plain speaking? policy, which means that all the terms and conditions of the contract are set out very simply. Paperwork is generally kept to a minimum, and all the key facts and figures are laid out in a very simple tabular format, so that you can quickly and easily access all the information that you need. That ...
