...were delighted to discover that Puppy Patrol is a series of books. They are written by the brilliant author Jenny Dale. She writes for children but does not talk down to them. Children appreciate this. She doesn't use silly names or talking animals either. Her books have good plots, excellent characters and there is generally a moral or two as well. The Puppy Patrol books centre around a young boy and his family, who run a dog boarding kennels and rescue centre. Each book includes a new dog with new problems, which are resolved by the end of the book.
My daughter doesn't like Harry Potter, she finds it too unconvincing. She can relate to the Puppy Patrol characters because they are believable. Even my son - age 8 - likes the Puppy Patrol books.

The books are non oversentimental but neither are they miserable. There are animals and people with problems and sad lives but there aren't orphans and deaths all over the place. They are positive, enhancing stories and make their readers feel life is hopeful and they do have choices.

I would like to know more about the author. She is obviously an animal lover (she writes other animal books in addition to the Puppy Patrol series). If she is on a mission to make children responsible animal owners I think she is succeeding. She is also succeeding at being a terrific author. My daughter is so impressed that she is designing a web site in her honour - and my daughter isn't easily impressed!
Advantages: Big or small. Pedigree or mutt, Neil and Emily Parker love them all. Disadvantages: You'll want them all.
I've never read a better series. You just want to be there with them. They're the parents you never had. The brother and sisters you always wanted. The adventures you'd love to take part in. And then, of course, there's the dogs. From giant, friendly Great Danes, to tiny, fluffy Westies. And always faithful Sam and playful Jake, pulling you in, tugging on your heart strings. You fall in love. You read the next. And you've never been happier. Series ...
