I bought this radio on a whim. I saw it in my local argos for just under £100 and decided there and then I was going to give it a go.
Im whats known as an early adopter, Someone who jumps on new technology almost as soon as its released.
When I opened the box I was very surprised by the quality of the radio, The wooden case felt strong and looked great. It has a curved silver metal handle on the top but to be honest as the radio is mains powered its more for show than anything else. The front panel only contains a few buttons but has everything you need. It has a power button, Autotune button, 6 presets, Display button (to change between station information, time etc), Setup button (to change the station order and manual tune), a volume dial and a dual function tune dial, you turn to flip through the available stations and push it in to select. Also present is a 2 line backlit LCD display.
The audio quality of the radio is excellent and the list of available stations is growing... The only thing that is annoying is that with old analogue radios you could still listen to stations even if your reception wasnt perfect, you could choose to listen with some interference, With DAB you cant, its all or nothing... if the signal isnt spot on you just wont get the station. It would of been nice to have the option but this defeats the object of digital I guess.
The radio is quite heavy but as I said earlier its mains only powered so it wont be moved around much. The mains adapters comes supplied. The radio only has 1 speaker but you can by an optional second one to turn the radio into a stereo system, These were selling for about £70 but have probably been reduced by now. Im not sure how the second speaker would look bolted on to the side, It might be worth investing in a stereo set from the outset if thats what your after, probably cheaper too. Another nice feature is that it has 4 rubber feet so it wont mark any surfaces you may put it on.
Another let down is that it only has 6 preset buttons, This really isnt enough but as its so easy to find and tune to channels you can live with it...
Overall a very nice radio, A little overpriced maybe (when i bought it) but excellent quality in both build and sound.
