Advantages: Easy to read display. User friendly. Benificial innovative features. Disadvantages: None.
The Pure Legato 2 is quite simply a revolation in innovation and functionality. Looking at it initially, it's like a wolf in sheeps clothing. It's size is small, yet it's output and definition to sound is of a magnitude which proves it's not the size of the speakers that count but the quality of them.
This unit has many significant benificial aspects over many others. One of these is the fact that the display is a crystal blue with white text, ... ...size. There is also a Pure sub-1 subwoofer available which compliments the system perfectly. It has a total output of 45 watts so putting the two together makes a sound thumpingly impressive 105 watts of power output. The system has an option to enable or disable the subwoofer via it's settings menu.
I'll now describe each provision this unit has.
This unit has both dab and fm frequencies and can store up to 99 presets in each band. more
The Pure Legato 2 is quite simply a revolation in innovation and functionality. Looking at it initially, it's like a wolf in sheeps clothing. It's size is small, yet it's output and definition to sound is of a magnitude which proves it's not the size of the speakers that count but the quality of them. This unit has many significant benificial aspects over many others. One of these is the fact that the display is a crystal blue with white text, which produces a visibly clearer clarity than the usual strange mixes of colours many audio systems adapt. The text and numerical size is also of a larger size than of the common cased tiny displays which means it is easy to without having to be extremely close to the system. You don't have to squint at the display or get a magnifying glass to read it! The buttons are easily laid out, instantly descriptive which means it's easy to understand their uses without even reading the instructions. The unit has a 60 watt total output of sound (30 watts per channel) which is a big output considering the size. Finding dab stations is a breeze with the autotune (also has a manual tuning option) and the aerial provided is in another dimension of strength. Much more powerful than comparing it to the usual thin, tacky offerings that tend to be provided often. The Pure Legato 2 can also record radio to be stored via a secure digital card which is placed in the front of the unit via the provided slot. The secure digital card isn't provided with the unit but is easily purchased in many shops. A 2gb card can store around 30 hours of radio on average (calculating the average being a 128kb/second bitstream quality that is transmitted via the radio station). Many stations tend to be transmitting at the 128kb/second level at present. Recordings can be made on the spot manually and even via an electronic programme guide. This EPG details the programmes, times and programme information at the press of a button. This option is only available with broadcasters who are implimenting such technology which currently totals around 6-7 stations until more broadcasters are able to provide the technological status. Another new technological product is the intellitext feature. This option provides detailed news and general data in a menu system from participating stations. As yet, I could only find one station that impliments such technology but no doubt this will grow in time when more broadcasters make it available. Playback of the stored tracks/programmes in the sd card is easy enough and the unit even has an option to shuffle tracks stored on the sd card which is very handy indeed. The unit can pause live radio for a total of 30 minutes and can fast forward and rewind the stored context. The cd has the usual trimmings but can also read mp3 files on a disk and can read id tags (cd track names and artists) providing it is available on the cd. Some might say a surprising aspect of the cd section is the manufacturers decision to exclude a cd draw in this model. The previous version having had a draw cd input (Legato 1). In this model however, instead Pure have opted for the cd section to suck the cd into the harness instead of placing in a draw and using a draw to position the cd. A handy feature is the option to press the info button to check on various details of the cd that is inserted. The info button in this case states the track time, the remaining track time, the full cd time and the total cd time remaining. It even splits tracks when the cd isn't being played so you can see the number of tracks with the total time of each track in a list form which is again innovative. Another innovative feature of the unit is that it provides a blue light around either the cd area or the sd card slot, depending on what is currently in use. When no blue light shows, the radio is thus activated. Audio sound settings consist of both treble and bass controls with a balance setting to check speaker connections being seperate. The unit has 3 auxillary inputs, two being the types of connections to put in external units such as digital tv recorders and dvd players to listen to the sound via the pure legato 2 unit, along with the tv they would also be connected to. The 3rd auxillary input is on the front of the unit and this can be used to listen to ipod audio/personal mp3 players via the unit. The remote control is easy to use with many of the controls being on both the unit and the remote control itself. In conclusion, the Pure Legato 2 is a top of the range midi hi fi with a multitude of options and user friendly features. With the addition of the subwoofer lifts the midi status into a fully fledged hi fi system with class leading sound production and an ample wattage of output in place from units amplification. The Pure Legato 2 is pure quality. I have no hesitation in recommending it.
